I wonder how that turned out in actuality and not exit polls.  My sense is that he did horrible.  Kerry insisted on making this election about Iraq and gave economic issues lip service.  Both of my parents are staunch union members- Dad hated Kerry and voted Bush.  Mom pulled a George Carlin and stayed home.  I just dont think Kerry connected effectively with the working class. The democrats seemed to take this vote for granted and got burned.  Trial lawyer who talks about his pappy's roots or Gephardt for V.P.-Kerry made a huge error.  Gephardt might have been able to get Kerry Ohio.

I think it varied a lot state by state. I know that (as in 2000) a lot of Union voters in WV didn't vote *at all*... and the same seems to be true for OH. On the other hand Union voters won MN and WI for Kerry.

Would you agree that he made a half hearted effort if that?  The labour unions, although shrinking, used to be the Dems bread and butter.  They now appear to be a swing constituency depending on the state.

Union members are also often gun owners.  Kerry doesn't have a good record for gun owners, and his ludicrous posturing as a pro-gun hunter did not sell.
