I spent a couple years of my life permanently drunk or stoned, and I just have no interest in that anymore. I won't say that I don't occasionally have a beer or two if I'm with friends though, even if I'd generally describe myself as a non-drinker now.

I have no real objection on moral or religious grounds to alcohol, I simply see no reason to drink and have no desire to do so. My father was also an alcoholic, and was rather abusive to everyone in the family, and I have no intention of taking the risk of following in his footsteps.

There's also the fact that I really just don't understand it, beyond just having a couple drinks. People who just get totally f'ed up end up throwing up, blacking out, making an ass of themselves, and then feeling like garbage the next day. There's also the fact that tons of people say beer specifically tastes like piss, but they drink it anyway. Neither makes any real sense to me, I guess.

I drink rarely; the odd beer and whisky. But that's it - I prefer something a bit simpler really Smiley

I spent a large part of last year teetotal because alcohol is not usually recommend for surgical liver patients. I don't drink a great deal anyway, mainly because alcohol as a drug doesn't seem to do much for me and drinking enough so it does is probably not a great idea for reasons mentioned already.

Never understood people who say that it never tastes nice though. Perhaps you all drank too many sugary drinks when you were little.

I don't particularly care for the effects. Other vices are much more fun.

It's not so much that I don't like the taste as that there are plenty of beverages that taste as good that are a lot cheaper.
