Senate:  55-44-1

House (at worst): 232-202-1

There have only been three times in recent history that the Republicans have controlled Congress and the Presidency:  The 108th Congress, the first bit of the 107th Congress, and Eisenhower's 82nd Congress--in which his majority in the Senate rested on Nixon's tying vote.

The last time the Republicans held a majority this size was the 71st Congress--Hoover's first term.

To the Republicans on this board:  This is cause to be happy.  Let's just hope they don't mess up.

"hope they don't mess up"

Amen to that.  They need to get off their giddy-trip of being in control and come back down to reality.  They overspent in 2000-2004, time to limit spending in 2005-2008.

And PLEASE . . . get rid of all the damn pork already.  Work for the country, not your precincts.  You will get re-elected to your position if you improve the country.  Just ask Daschle.

Let's just hope they don't mess up.

You can bank on that! How about balancing the budget? Assuming they actually know what that means.

Everyone needs to write their Congressmen and request a balanced budget.
