As we all know, New Jersey gets next to zilch federal funding, and thus, our Medicaid sucks so much that I have to go up to Newark to get my teeth fixed. We also have a high-assed tax burden and services that suck, however...

Alaska gets what it wants, when it wants from Uncle Sam. I have a saying that our national debt is caused by four things: 1. our military presence everywhere and all these wars, 2. our prison-industrial complex, 3. agricultural subsidies given to factory farms, and 4. federal monies to Alaska

And its not even as if Alaska even tries to make an effort to pull some of its own weight. It's got no sales tax, no income tax, hell, I don't even think citizens have to pay any taxes at all to their state). The only people who should not be paying taxes in that state is the Alaska Native population (of course, I am indigenous too, so I understand).

So, thus, the Alaska government are the biggest welfare queens in the United States, and we New Jerseyans and the other donor states are paying to wipe their butt. And I thought the Final Frontier was one of those Republican states, what with self-reliance and pulling oneself up by the bootstraps. Hey Alaska, pay for your own damn stop signs.

This, pretty much. Once NJ Congressmen and Senators get more seniority and powerful Committee chairmanships, maybe they can better compete with Alaska.

With Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski (both of whom sat on the Appropriations Committee) booted from office, Alaska's ability to get federal funding has taken a huge hit.  I don't think Alaska will be getting a lion's share much longer.

A lot of this is because of the undemocratic nature of the US Senate. Another major factor is the failure to take into account cost of living.

Ah, yes. "The Living Daylights".  However, I do beleive that was in reference to someone who was thrown off a plane, not dying in a plane crash.
