What if the 2000 Election had gone to Congress and the House had voted for Bush as POTUS and the Senate had voted (narrowly) for Lieberman as VP…what would the likely outcome of that have been…and how would things have been different to how they actually turned out?

Well, not much change.  VP's have very little power.  The tax cuts in 2003 may not have passed in 2003 (although I am unsure how Lieberman voted on the tax cuts-he may very well have voted for them.)

Also, Joe would be the Dem nominee in 2004.

That'd be unusual seeing a sitting VP vs. a sitting president

Yeah, would Lieberman run against what had happened in the last four years.

Very good piont...ahh...what might have been...humm... wonder who would have been Lieberman's VP...somone on the left, Feingold, Edwards (ok he's not that leftwing but hey), or perhaps Dick Durbin...humm that could be a tough one...

And how about Bush? would he go with Cheney or someone younger and less shady and mean in 2000 Cheney brought gravitas and that effectively cancelled out his more negative traits... but if Bush had been Prez for four years he wouldnt need that supposed gravitas...so someone more appealing like, Frist, Pataki or Owens might be chosen... as Bush's new VP...

Schummer announced on the Daily Show that Dick Durbin would be the best pick for VP. I see LIeberman as picking a pro-war centrist. I'm so glad he lost, he was the most Bush-lite.

I'd foresee a lot more JOEMENTUM in the Bush administration.

Congressional prayer breakfast? BAM, LOOK OUT! JOEMENTUM! He's in and out before you realize it.

Well Joe would have been replaced by a Republican since Connecticut has a Republican governor, so that guy would have definitely voted for the Bush tax cuts and thus no affect on most policies.

However, holy Joe wouldn't have been like disappearing dick.  So possibly slight adjustments to our policy would have happened.

Not necessarily, 10 Senate Republicans voted against the tax cuts.

I strongly doubt he would have run against Bush in such a scenario since he supported the Iraq War and just like Bush he supports immigration reform.

If anything, we might see Lieberman switch parties from Democrat to Republican and the 2004 Democratic Nominee may be a progressive like Kerry, Feingold, or Biden.

Lieberman wouldn't be the 2004 Democratic nominee since he's seen as too much to the right.

Even more fascinating to think about is a Gore/Cheney Administration following the 2000 election.
