Hello,

I found some information on the all the primaries (from 1912 to 1996) in one of my books I got for my birthday.  I figured I'd start with the Republican primaries in 1912 first.  I made a map.



Teddy Roosevelt (blue)
Robert LaFollette (green)
William Howard Taft (red)

And how did Taft win the nomination if he only won one primary?  How were the other state delegates chosen?

They were chosen by caucuses of state/county leaders, many of whom voted for Taft and many delegates were even contested at the convention.

TR's delegates refused to vote at the "sham" convention of, as they stated, "Greedy Old People" the GOP.

They voted on the convention chairman and whether challenged delegates could vote on challenges.  After losing those votes, they abstained on other issues, including the nomination of Taft.
