I'd probably have been a Whig in the 1830s-50s.  Better a party devoted to internal improvements and good government than a bunch of crazy agrarian radicals with their expansionist fantasies.

In Britain in that period I'd have been...well...um...it completely depends on the borough and who I am.  Sadly, in that period, I might well have been weak-minded enough to be a "philosophic radical."  Sad  (Without hindsight, that is)
