42% Tim Walberg (R)
38% Mark Schauer (D)

Perhaps the biggest surprise in the automated phone poll done by Lansing-based Rossman Group and Team TeleCom was that Schauer, a Battle Creek Democrat, elected two years ago, holds a 10 percentage point lead among self-described independents while trailing Walberg, a Tipton Republican, 42% to 38%.

The Rossman-Team TelCom poll surveyed 300 likely voters in the district on Monday. The margin of error is plus or minus 5.6 percentage points.

Why is that a surprise? It's a Republican district. You have to win independents by more than that.

It's only R+2. I think Obama won it, looking at the county numbers, although I'm not 100% certain.

Obama winning a district in Michigan doesn't exactly mean much.
