It would be neat if Clements actually got >10%.

It's a real shame the man who started the recession will win over a true American hero. Joke epic fail state.

I actually spoke to my dad last night about this race.  He will be voting for Clements.

I voted for Greene the other day. I hear he's tearing it up with early voters!

I'd be interested to see what the racial breakdown is.

I actually did. Tongue

Why not? It's not like DeMint will actually lose, which is a shame, and if Greene actually wins, it will provide 6 years of hilarity.

WOW, if DeMint doesn't break 60% that would be embarrassing. Think if Vic Rawl had won the Democratic nomination, this might actually be a competitive race.

I believe that if this was a neutral/Dem year, Rawl could win.

It would be difficult, but he could.

58% is quite low considering the nature of his opponent(s).

Come on, man.  I admire your never give up attitude, but this is South Carolina.

McCain only won the state by 9. He could, but even in a Dem year, the cards would be stacked against him. Because, yes, this is South Carolina, lol.

Rawl seemed like the perfect candidate for South Carolina. And, if Rawl played his cards right and painted DeMint as a far right-winger (this would work only in a Dem/neutral year in South Carolina) that is more concerned with being kingmaker in other states and not focusing on his job, he could eke out a win.

But he would need to have an african-american running for statewide office (for turnout), at the same time as he is appealing to moderates. Not likely, but possible.

If DeMint ends up with under 60% (in SC) against a pair of joke opponents it shows just how weak he really is. Not only that, he's gotten weaker. Not long ago many of us thought he'd hit 70.

Also, there was a poll that showed Rawl within 10 points of DeMint. So yes, Vic could have made this competitive. I'm not saying he would've won though.

And the main reason he won it at all was racism.

Please.  Obama wouldn't have been within 9 if it weren't for racism of a different sort.

South Carolina is a Republican state.

No, look at the swing map in the presidential results. Notice that the only 5 states to have become more Republican from 2004-2008 (West Virginia, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Louisiana) were all southern? Though South Carolina was not in that category it was very much affected by the same factor that caused those states to swing more Republican - racism.
