I bet it's Emmer's nonsensical decision to feature Pawlenty in ads and campaigning Wink

What Eraserhead said, though Emmer has started running more of a weird and awful campaign. I doubt having Pawlenty in an ad for him is a big factor (since almost everyone who doesn't like him isn't voting for Emmer anyway), but he has sort of taken an Alan Grayson-esque "If you're going to lose, at least lose in STYLE!" type turn lately. No attempt to move to the center (beyond simply using vague "lower taxes!" rhetoric in campaigning and not much else) and his comment about how a "Pawlenty mask" wouldn't fit him, which sounds like a legitimate attempt to simply distance himself from Pawlenty until he followed it up with basically "I'm not like Pawlenty, I'm far more abrasive and unwilling to work with the other side."

He's running a losing campaign, that's for sure.

"Humphrey Institute" does not exactly sound like a nonpartisan organization.

"Humphrey Institute" does not exactly sound like a nonpartisan organization.

It is officially, just part of the University of Minnesota.
