The reason that I don't consider Runio and Toomey as Tea Party candidates are quite simple, they didn't run as Tea Party candidates, they began planing to primary Specter and Crist long before anyone had heard of a Tea Party movement, and they would have won said primaries without the Tea Party movement.

Yeah and the Democrats really screwed themselves over in 1930, didn't they?

Best analogy on the thread.

Welcome to 1930.

Keep in mind the Gubernatorial races this year.  The Republicans picked up over ten State Houses which are huge.

Why are they huge now?

Because the outcome of this election at the state level will have implications on congressional redistricting.  That's why the Republicans may be able to keep the majority in the House longer than people realize.  As you all know (rolls eyes), the party that is in power in the state capital is really the driver of how the congressional districts are redrawn.

Democrats can spin it all they want, but the fact of the matter is that this particular election will indeed have implications in the future.  If your party is going to get it's rear-end handed to them, you better hope it is not in a year that ends in a "zero".  The Republicans all across the nation have a chance to right the ship when it comes to these horribly and unfairly configured districts that the Democrats have been winning off of for generations.

I am particularly pleased that the North Carolina State Legislature now has a Republican majority for the first time since Reconstruction.
