This guy deserves massive props. He got a lousy opponent thanks to the Tea Party but was still clearly in danger especially being appointed and mostly a no-name prior to that. My hat is off to him.

FF, and hats off to Colorado - it continues to surprise on the good side.  Absent angst-wave it seems to be trending Dem strongly.

That is the perfect term for what happened last night. Thank you so much for giving me a term I can latch on to. Tongue

Haha, yes, that one really seemed a natural to me.  Think of a whole country rising up and vomiting from sheer fear.  Unfortunately it vomited a lot of Republican chunks all over itself, poor dear.

He seems to be a great senator. On another note, Bennet and Gillibrand are appointees winning election. Isn't that pretty rare?

HP. He votes like a leftist, but talks like a moderate hero. He basically says a version of this all the time, "Look at how moderate and reasonable I am!"

In the current Senate, Akaka, Murkowski, Menendez, Barrasso and Wicker were all appointees who went on to win elections in their own right.  But it's more common for appointees to keep the seat warm without ever intending to run for it (e.g. Paul Kirk, Kaufman, LeMieux, Goodwin).

For a rather liberal but not flame throwing Dem, I like Bennet, a lot, particularly since I suspect the odds are pretty good that he is a distant relative. Smiley

He is a reasonable and serious person, not a sound byte type. I like that.

Colorado is definitely Democratic leaning territory these days, at least at the statewide level. Who'd have thought that could be 10 years ago? If Dems can win a Governorship and a Senate seat in this kind of environment, even with... err... less than stellar opponents, what can't they do?

Also, as a Senator, Bennet is much better than the man he replaced. FF.

Ritter got a lot of flack for appointing him. I guess he deserves props. Of course he had a much bigger job than the detractors said, WalterMitty called him a "high school principal", when his job was managing the entire Denver public school system. Not a small task indeed.

Another good thing about Colorado; it rejected an anti-Obamacare referendum: http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2010/results/individual/#COI02

I'm a big fan of his work on Senate procedural reform. Hopefully it goes somewhere.

It's weird that a state that came perilously close to electing Tom Tancredo is apparently growing more Democratic.

It only came close to doing so in the polls. Tancredo's support on Election Day was only 37%. Compared to how Brewer did running on the same issues...
