Well, at a glance, I can't figure out why having the take-action box on the left matters as opposed to the right.  It's slightly off for people who visit lots of such sites, but that's not a bad thing as it gets your attention if you even realize it's in an atypical location (unlikely).  Lots of sites use lefthand menus for their punchiest navigation points, with large images to the right to illustrate further content, like nytimes.com for example.

And there are like eight other things that come to mind, like the poorly sized healthcare lawsuit image and the broken images, that bother me more.

Something tells me that snotty criticisms posted publicly on the internet might not count as a consultant contract whereby services are paid for and delivered.
