This may surprise you considering how much I wanted the guy gone, but I sort of feel bad for him. He doesn't come across as a particularly vile person like many of the Republicans elected (and of course many defeated such as O'Donnell, Buck and Angle) and he had to give up his Honolulu City Council seat for a few month term. I'm assuming that is already filled and he doesn't seem viable statewide and the GOP presence in the Hawaii State legislature is kind of comical.

I wonder if Abercrombie will give him some sort of lower-level cabinet position or appointment that's largely non-partisan (sort of like Obama gave Jon Huntsman). I'd consider it if I were in his position.

I doubt it. I forgot about Huntsman though. Wonder how he's doing over in China.

In a similar situation, what about Joseph Cao? LA state elections are next year, he could run for something.

I'd feel worse for him if I hadn't butted my head so much in arguments here about whether he was a "safe Hawaii incumbent" or not. LOL.

An accidental congressman.

Despite losing, he still did pretty well given his district's lean and presumably gained a fair few Case voters from the special election.

Probably. Maybe senate in 2012 or Mayor of Honolulu. He really was a reasonable Republican that many people should miss. Not many Republicans had the courage to support repealing DADT.

That's kind of my thought process. Honestly it seemed like some people believe Hawaii voters are basically robots, and that X% of them will always change their vote to an incumbent no matter what. I never heard any valid argument as to WHY Hawaii voters would flock to Djou en masse beyond "He's an incumbent and Hawaii always swings toward incumbents."

I suppose if Hanabusa won the special election she would've broke 70% then.

To be fair Djou did quite a bit better on Tuesday than in the special election. He just had to convince too many Dem voters for it to go his way.

Maybe now Hawaii will change their stupid special election law. Though probably not.

He might.
I'm more interested in Cao's future. He probably damaged himself too much with the state R primary electorate with his first healthcare vote - but the LA state Democratic Party has a long history of running party switchers Grin .

I guess it was a pretty bad election if Democrats can only crow about beating two accidental House members.

The crowing here has zilch to do with the partisan implications of Djou losing.

And the open seat in solidly Democratic Delaware.

Could go back to local politics of some sort. Not that I really care, he was decent and all, but I rarely lose sleep over or give a thought to defeated politicians.

He could move to some other state, or become a Democrat (he's not so conservative that he would stand out). Republicans in Hawaii generally have few prospects.

Yes, perhaps he should move to Monterey Park, and commence doing the Lord's work there.
