...to Israel, of course.

Eric Cantor's Pledge of Allegiance

Looks like once again the Republicans and Democrats are falling over each other to prove which one better serves the interests of Israel over the United States.

Ι hate to agree with Libertas but he is right on that one. Cantor's statement the he will support another country's interests over his own, flirts with treason.

This is, basically, treasonous. Eric Cantor should be deported.

This is treason, but treason is okay when you're doing it for Israel.

I'm certainly no fan of Netanyahu's government or the occupation in general, but obviously Israel is not an enemy at war with the U.S.

Israel IS an enemy of the United States, and it has attacked us before on multiple occasions.

But, regardless, the Constitution's definition is not the only meaning of "treason".

Then why Jonathan Pollard is still in prison?

Yeah, I know, it's anti-Semitic to not support the interests of the state of Israel over one's own country. Roll Eyes

Because he was convicted of a crime other than treason? Leaking national defence secrets to a foreign government is a crime, regardless of who you're leaking them to; merely supporting some country in your foreign policy is not.

So I guess that Cantor's motto is "My country, right or wrong except when it comes to Israel".
And if Israel is such a good friend of the US then why spying for it is considered a crime? What's a little espionage among friends?

In the US, the President is not the "Government." Glen Greenwald and all the Israel-hating hacks didn't criticize Pelosi's trip to Syria when Bush was in office.

Putting American interests first = "Israel-hating hack"?

if your definition of "putting American interests first" = consistently siding against Israel, then yes.

Great point. There is a troubling double standard here.

I wouldn't encourage this behavior but its hardly the first time that it has occured.

If by "siding against Israel", you mean siding against one-sided favoritism that harms our own country's interests, then yes.

He should just move to Israel, if he loves that country so much.  Oh wait, he can't funnel our money into Israel, from there.

It ain't "treason" folks. Cantor just thinks the Obama administration policy is wrong vis a vis Israel. It is time to calm down a bit. JMO.

I personally agree with Obama's hostility to the construction of new settlements. It is a bit odd, since in any peace agreement, the real estate on which these settlements are being built, will need to be ceded in any event. Maybe Israel is interested in a housing program for Palestinians or something, down the road. Smiley

Israel has a great little tyranny scheme going.  By naming themselves Israel, they are allowed to do whatever they want because standing up to Israel for some reason means you hate Jews.

Perhaps if we changed the English translation of the country's name to Philistine, or one of the colloquial terms used within the region, we could get more business done here in America when it comes this issue.

There's nothing especially unusual - certainly nothing treasonous - about siding with another government over that of your own country on certain issues. Actually that sort of language is quite dangerous. Though Cantor is a prick and this is a stupid thing to brag about, in part because it does encourage the legitimisation of 'mild' antisemitic discourses.

Please learn the difference between an antisemitism and not supporting Israel policies, for example.

Otherwise, I can say you're a racist KKK bigot for not supporting Obama administration. After all, Obama is Black.

I think Cantor is dead wrong, but what he said was clearly within the bounds of accepted discourse.  (See American politicians openly siding with Britain before US involvement in both World Wars).
