(Christie's name was not listed in the poll, but 1% of respondents volunteered it.  Presumably, it would have been higher if his name had been explicitly mentioned.)

Less than 1% of moderates and liberals support Santorum. Shocking.  Tongue

Good jump for Huckabee though.

If I had two bets to place, it'd be on Huckabee or Palin.  Both are doing well enough with moderate GOP and GOP-leaning indies to win.

The only issue now is that the conservative GOP and GOP-leaning vote is being split pretty badly but they still are pretty much tied with Romney.

I don't think there will be as many GOP-leaning indies in the primary as Gallup thinks.  This sample is likely around 35-40% indy.

Chris Christie could have a serious shot at winning the nomination if he was dedicated to it. This poll looks pretty good for Romney. Thune's still my darkhorse pick, and though I'd like to see Romney win, I think Thune may do it if he runs.

What exactly are the positions of a liberal Republican?

See the Maine ladies.  Liberal Republicans only exist in numbers in the northeast.

I agree they are liberal for Republicans.  But I don't see how if they were asked to self-identify on the spectrum they wouldn't say moderate.

Maybe it is a throw-back to the days when "liberalism" meant "more freedoms"?

I'm surprised at the stability in the numbers between self-described conservatives and moderates.
