This will be an alternate history from the 1986 election onward.

Election Night! NBC news covers Election Night 1986.
Good evening! It's 8:05 here on the East Coast, in New York, and we have some Senate races to call, from our exit polling.
First, the shocker of the night, or at least for now, is Indiana.
After a series of embarassing gaffes, mispellings, inacurrate statements, the voters in Indiana have rejected Dan Quayle's bid for re-election, 52-48

The New Senator from Indiana is Jill Long.

Richard Shelby of Alabama has unseated Jerimiah Denton by 51-49. This is key for the Democrats to take up the Senate.

In Georgia, Democrats picked up a seat by pushing Wyche Fowler over the top

Not gonna happen. Quayle landslided Jill Long by over 20 %
