I made a poll about Korean reunification earlier today and coincidentally there's news.

From Al Jazeera:

Not as big as it might be.  The full leak says that China doesn't expect North Korea's regime to last more than 2-3 years post Kim Jong-Il.

The question becomes, how do you get from "N. Korean government collapses" to "reunification?"

Of course that's what their diplomats would be telling our diplomats. Doesn't mean that's what they actually want.

Actually, there is sense in China wanting a Korean reunification. A reunified Korea would probably remove the American troops there (logical, when you consider they barely tolerate them now). Also, North Korea, if it continues its aggressive behavior, may provoke South Korea and Japan into militarizing, which is probably not something that China wants. And finally, a reunified Korea would probably have to spent a long time integrating the North and this would be a good period for increasing Chinese influence there.
