Let me ask you:
Let's say Obama decided on a surprise strategy at the outset--going along with EVERYTHING the Republicans wanted. Like coming out of ''left field'' (no pun intended) and actually being more of a Republican than most of the Republicans. He'd act the same way as he did during the Campaign--Promising change and fundamental transformation of America, prompting as it did the cries of "radical"
But once in office, for example, he wouldn't not pass any stimulus because he'd know the economy would be even worse if he didn't. Not voting in favor of TARP. Not going for HCR at all, or if so, only going for tort reform. Basically acting more like a Republican than any Republican in the Congress. Acting like a total Laissez-Faire Capitalist.
Why would he do this? "Shock and awe", to shock the hell out of Beck and the other hard line Republicans and Tea Party types--to play their game better than them. Also, if he acted like a total Conservative and didn't endorse TARP or any form of stimulus and embraced Laissez-Faire, and the economy tanked into a total Depression, ultimately while it might ensure that he'd be a one termer, in the long run it would help the cause of Liberalism, and perhaps even undermine the Republicans' Conservative ideology--He could say over and over that he was going along with the opposition, following their ideas.
