Ouch for Romney. He needs to do better than this in Michigan if he is going to actually win.

Romney is dead in the water, Huck is the presumptive nominee at this point.

he would dominate if 1) he could raise the money and 2) didn't have clemency

but because of that...he wouldn't last the primaries.

I really don't see #2 becoming an issue at all.

RomneyFail

Then again, I always found it annoying that MI was percieved safe for Romney just because his father (!) was governor. Even though Romney could never win MA, which he himself governed (not in the general, anyway)

Or because he managed to win there in 2008 even though McCain clearly had the momentum at the time...

Wow. I would think this would be one of Romney's best states. I'm surprised to see him only tied.

momentum made it closer, Romney was dominating the state no matter the losses before that

I think it will be a focus point of democrats saying he'll make the wrong decisions, republican candidates (minus T-Paw) saying he's soft on crime, and the media just to make noise. Then again...it could be not an issue since it's already been out there for a year and not like the Bush DUI at the end of his 2000 campaign

What really won Michigan for Romney was $.  He outspent McCain and Huckabee by enormous margins.  He also outspent them in Iowa and NH, but advertising matters less in those states than others, and retail politics matters more.

$ is also how he managed to briefly take the lead in the polls in FL, even after McCain got a momentum boost from winning SC.  But Crist's endorsement of McCain robbed Romney of the chance of scoring an upset victory there.

I just can't see how he wins without being the clear frontrunner from the start. He only can really move downhill from here

Republicans are idiots if they nominate someone other than Romney out of that dashingly appealing group of potential nominees such as the wonderful Rick Santorum and brilliant Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin. Tongue BTW McCain was supposedly dead on arrival in mid 07. If anyone is claiming the same for Romney they are underestimating him.

Republicans are idiots if they nominate someone other than Romney

So basically, Republicans are idiots if they don't nominate the third coming of Bush?

How is Romney like Bush again? If anyone in the Republican field is like Bush it's Mike Huckabee and John Thune.

Every conceivable area. In fact, I'd venture to say that Romney is, in fact, worse than Bush - because at least Bush was consistently horrible, whereas Romney seems to want to touch upon ever horrible ideology there is for his own personal benefit.

Mitch Daniels? Tongue I agree I do not want the GOP to nominate some of their candidates, but saying that they are idiots for nominating someone other then Romney is, well "..."

Romney is not the third coming of Bush. He's the Republican version of John Kerry.

If anyone is the Republican version of Kerry its Daniels. How you heard the man speak? We already put up a bore last time around who couldn't compete on the stump with Obama.
