YES! This is absolutely excellent. Nevada Democrats must be celebrating.

Her campaign has a bizarre habit of choosing the most unflattering pictures of her they can find.

Nevada GOP leadership will likely make sure she is stopped. She might have won her primary this year by a wide margin but still only got 40%. It shouldn't be too difficult.

This make me long for the era when the establishment picked the candidates in smoke-filled backrooms. In those days Sharron Angle would at best been our candidate for dog catcher.

They have to deal with Ensign first, you know.

Well that pretty much guarrantees Heller runs to complete the trifecta. Heller and Angle hate each other and Heller and Ensign despise each other as well.

At this point, they may just want to keep him around.

Maybe, if you mean to split the vote in the primary up more. But unless Ensign's situation improves, he isn't going to be reelected, despite whatever the polling is right now.

Aren't there any Pubbie "White Knights" in Nevada to ride in and save a party in distress?

If there were, Harry Reid would have dispatched them.

A Heller entry would almost assuredly hurt Angle, but Angle would have problems with Ensign on her own.

In fact, don't be surprised if Ensign is tougher than he looks on all fronts.  For a number of reasons, actually, but also since this is Nevada, a state that is controlled by certain interests above all else.

I wonder if the Tea Party will still be relevant, if not defunct, by 2012?

She didn't specify which office she'll be running for.  You never know; she and Heller might both pass on taking on Ensign, and rematch each other in NV-2 instead.  (Despite NV gaining another seat, they're virtually guaranteed to remain together in the same district.)

Or... Heller takes on Ensign, giving Angle a free ride to the House of Representatives.  Sad

Has she announced that she is running? All I see is a PAC. Yeah, I know it is the first step, but that doesn't make it official... not that I doubt that she will run.

Not necessarily. Remember the new seat will likely consist of heavily Republican counties in southern Nevada and the Clark exurbs. Here's a likely map:

So the northern district is very Washoe County-based, which Angle couldn't even win over Reid. If that's what we get, it's probably fine for Heller or any normal Republican, but not Angle. Especially since Obama would've won it in 2008 and stands a great shot in 2012 even if he does slightly worse in Nevada.

Dean Heller. I wouldn't call the party in distress though considering they got Sandoval and Heck elected. Angle isn't going to win again. The Republican leadership could change the primary system to be runoff/IRV to ensure candidates get at least 50% of the vote. If they had done that last time around, we may have had a Senator Lowden this January.

Angle did not handle her defeat well. She went back into the nutter mode. If there is a God, the Angle phenom has peaked - hopefully along with the Tea Party. With any luck, the adults will be back in charge soon. We have tough and complex  public choices to make - really tough - and this element, along with some elements on the Left, are just not very helpful in this process. Tea Party folks should take a cue from a guy who is really creditable on fiscal issues, Senator Coburn, and do it soon.
