"Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) says he will meet with freshly-minted DSCC chair Patty Murray, likely early next year, about his re-election options for 2012.

No discussions have taken place yet, but he said that some Senate Republicans are rooting for him.

"Some of my colleagues in the Democratic caucus have been very gracious and kind saying they hope I run as a Democrat," he told TPM in an interview Wednesday. "Patty and I said we'd talk sometime early in the New Year."

Of course not, unless their opponent has the lowest approval rating of any member of the Senate.

Sewer, I have news for you:

We know. But Lieberman is enough of a slime to find some way to cheat out of any primary he's in.

And also, you had no ground to jump down our throats. Just saying.

Anybody who thinks that Lieberman will be the Democratic candidate in 2012 needs to have his head examined.

Hmmm, but this is assuming that:

1. Lieberman really does run as a Democrat.
2. Lieberman wins the Democratic Primary.
3. Schiff wins the Republican Primary.

All very big assumptions.

Lieberman will have the highest name recognition and the most money, and 3 or 4 others will split the anti-Lieberman vote.  Of course he'll win the primary.

Low approvals did not stop Harry Reid from crushing a tea party nutcase in 2010. Lieberman will win if he is the Democratic nominee, except against maybe Jodi Rell.

He was way, way more popular with Democrats when he lost the nomination in 2006. What is his approval with Democrats today? 15-20% maybe? You can't win a nomination with those kind of numbers.

Whichever Democrat runs against him in the primary has enough footage of Lieberman praising Republicans and Republican ideas and putting down Obama to make a full-length movie.

Where or where is Joe going to find a niche?  I want to keep him around myself. I know, on that one I am a minority of about one around here.  Tongue

I would. Lieberman is far more unpopular than he was in 2006 when he lost. He has worst approvals among Democrats than Obama does among Republicans! How could he possibly outperform his primary performance in 2006?

But then again you think Michele Bachmann would be a great statewide candidate.

Maybe Lieberman can win after all. Just get 20 or so candidates to run & split the anti-Lieberman vote & he will have a remote shot at it.

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_CT_1071118.pdf

Lieberman's approval among Democrats a couple months ago was 20%, and his re-elect numbers were 19%.

Who's going to run on the Dem side? Chris Murphy seems like a given; Joe Courtney has been talking about it, but I don't see why he'd leave a safe seat when he probably wouldn't be favored in a primary; Susan Bysiewicz so embarrassed herself this year that I doubt she'd have much support among the base. I wouldn't be surprised to see a potential Dem primary as Lieberman/Murphy/one or two nobodies.
