What counties do you think would vote for a 100% tax rate on all income above, say, $1 million, and a 100% estate tax with a $2 million dollar exemption?  I'm asking since that's a popular proposal among the socialist types.

I'd guess McGovern/Mondale/Kerry counties, minus any latte liberal ones left after that.

You may say it's a popular proposal among 'socialist types', but I don't recall ever liking something like that.

As for the question, I doubt more than 10 counties, if any at all, would vote for it.

None.   Never heard such a proposal before.

Not sure I agree with those saying "None". It's at least possible that really poor places like Shannon County, SD would consider it (although many Native Americans consider all taxation, at least of them, to be illegitimate, so perhaps not).

Maybe the Bronx, too, although the Bronx has enough wealthy nearby and in Riverdale and Country Club that there would be a strong lobby against it, likely enough to stop it from passing. Also, slumlords and church leadership would be unhappy. So, without any lobbying either way, I think it would pass, but certainly not with lobbying.

It was part of George McGovern's platform in '72, and Franklin Roosevelt actually issued an executive order (!) in 1937 raising the top tax rate to 100% on incomes above $25,000 (!), although that one was struck down by the courts.

Same amount that would vote for legalization of murder that's a popular proposal among the libertarian types.

There, now we're both liars.
