Kennedy-576 delegates
Jackson-458 delegates

Kennedy states "We're on a roll here."  However we shall see if his lead stays.  Democrats could get their filibuster majority back this fall in the Senate as well as have a substantial lead in the House.

With just two weeks left in the Democratic primaries who will become the victor?  While this is going on President Reagan states "The Democrats aren't sure what kind of nominee they want this year.  Either way they both want to spend unlike me who wants to conserve."

No one has the necessary number of delegates.  Polls show Jackson could do better against Reagan than Kennedy could and so some are suggesting voting for Jackson at the Convention.  Kennedy feels that it should be the voice of the public who chooses not the delegates therefore he should be the nominee.

DNC chair John C. White had a meeting with Kennedy and Jackson discussing the potential of not having a brokered Convention.  White asked the candidates to maybe come up with a deal.  Kennedy said if he couldn't be the nominee he'd want a big role in the Jackson administration.  Jackson said if he couldn't be the nominee he'd want to be on the ticket with Kennedy.

Wait and see what happens.

The Democrats decide to have a Kennedy/Jackson ticket.  The decision was made because of Jackson's age.  Therefore Ted Kennedy will be the Democratic nominee for President and Scoop Jackson will be the Democratic nominee for Vice President.

Ted Kennedy resigns as Senate Majority Leader in order to concentrate more on his candidacy.  Robert Byrd is selected by the Democrats to be Majority Leader.

Republican National Convention:

President Reagan and Vice President Schweiker is renominated on the first ballot.

Former President Ford makes a speech in favor of the administration.  "I feel that we can continue on a good course with the Reagan/Schweiker team.  Their better for America than the liberal Kennedy/Jackson ticket.  We need Reagan/Schweiker for 4 more years."

On the last night Reagan gives his speech "America is a great nation.  We need to go forward with conservatism rather than liberalism.  We will win.  We can't allow our liberal counterparts to take over this country."

The Republicans nominate Reagan/Schweiker.

Democratic National Convention:

Former 1976 nominee Jimmy Carter states "Americans please support Senator Kennedy this election.  He's the best choice for America right now.  We can't afford 4 more years of Reagan's rule."

Senator Ted Kennedy accepts the Democratic nomination for President.  "Today Americans we are on a new journey to bring back America.  We haven't seen anything good in this administration and there hasn't been any compromises between parties.  Now let's go forward and show President Reagan we mean business."

They nominate Kennedy/Jackson.

Polling:
Kennedy 55%
Reagan 42%

In early August Congressman John Anderson decides to jump into the Presidential race as an Independent.  One possible running mate pick would be Noam Chomsky (very liberal).  Another is Wisconsin Governor Patrick Lucey.

Also in early August George Bush is selected as Reagan's Secretary of State after current Secretary Alexander Haig resigns for personal reasons.

Wait and see what happens.
