Senate Minority Leader Howard Baker decides to consider dropping out.

On April 4th, New York Senator Jacob Javits decides to switch from a Republican to an Independent who caucuses with the Democrats.  Javits said "I feel that our party is getting too far to the right than we need to be.  That's why I've decided to become an Independent and caucus with the Democrats."

Former Governor of MN Harold Stassen is an endorser of Bush.  Stassen says "We can't have the far right running the party.  If we do that then we can't get much accomplished in Washington or anywhere."

Former GOP nominee in 1964 Senator Barry Goldwater Sr. endorses his son (Barry Jr.).  Goldwater Sr. says "I feel that my son can win both the nomination and the election this year.  That being so he can accomplish thing I wanted to do back in 1964 and Reagan wanted to do in the late 1970's."

On April 8th, after talking with advisors Senate Minority Leader Howard Baker decides to drop out of the Presidential race and endorse Goldwater for the nod.  (This gives Goldwater clear frontrunner status)  He states "Americans, I've deciced after not winning a primary this year to drop out of the race for President.  I go forward today and endorse California Senator Barry Goldwater Jr. for President."

President Kennedy states "Senator Goldwater is bad for America.  He's not going to lookout for the middle class or the poor.  All he wants is less government for everything you can imagine.  His father ran for President 20 years ago and lost to Lyndon Johnson.  Anyways, that's why voting for the Democrats is the best choice as we will stand up for your values while Republican's won't.  Former President Reagan came out in support of Goldwater which can only mean one thing if Goldwater's elected: disaster part 2."

Democratic National Convention: July 16th-July 19th

On the third night Vice President Bentsen addresses the Convention saying "Democrats let's go forward with President Kennedy and I in charge.  If we hand power over to Senator Goldwater we'll be in a hell hole.  He wants to get rid of Social Security, Universal Healthcare as well as other social programs in this country.  We don't need that kind of man in the White House.  Therefore this November go with Kennedy and Bentsen.  Thank you and God Bless America."

On the final night President Kennedy addressed the Convention saying "Democrats this is an important election in a long time.  We have a choice between a man who wants to dismantle our government and a man who wants to help the less fortunate.  Thank you and God Bless America."

The Democrats nominate Kennedy/Bentsen.

On July 30th Senator Barry Goldwater Jr. announces his running mate will be Representative Phil Crane of Illinois.  "I feel Phil Crane will be a great Vice President.  He shares my values for America.  I feel that the team of Goldwater and Crane will be better for America than has Kennedy and Bentsen."

Crane states "I'm glad to be selected as Goldwater's running mate.  Senator Goldwater and I will bring America back to less government including less gun control.  Thanks and God Bless America."

Republican National Convention: August 20th-August 23rd

On the third night Representative Phil Crane states "Thank you Republicans.  I'm glad to be on the team this year.  We need less government and under a Goldwater administration we'll have it.  President Kennedy has grown the government over the past 4 years.  Thank you and God Bless America."

On the final night Senator Barry Goldwater Jr. states "Republicans let's go forward and win the Election this fall.  We can't continue to spend and we need to have a budget of a cap on spending.  I propose, if elected, to get a bill through Congress and put a cap on spending.  Thank you and God Bless America."

Presidential Debate: October 23rd, 1984

Rather: Hello Americans and welcome to the Presidential Debate of 1984.  We have with us here President Ted Kennedy and Senator Barry Goldwater Jr.  First question, what are some of your ideas for the next 4 years?  Senator Goldwater?

Goldwater: First I want to thank Dan Rather for moderating and President Kennedy for being here tonight.  My ideas for the next 4 years is less government.  I plan to get rid of the gun control and healthcare laws.  That's not for the government to do.  The government is here to protect you but not cradle you.  President Kennedy has grown the government the largest since the Great Depression.

Kennedy: I too want to thank Dan Rather for moderating and Senator Goldwater for being here.  Now Senator Goldwater said I'd grown the government the largest since the Great Depression and he'd get rid of government involvement.  Let me ask the audience, would you rather have a candidate who looks out for the middle class or a candidate who wants you to live like survival of the fittest?

Rather: Alright 2nd question, what's your idea to deal with the economy?  President Kennedy?

Kennedy: I'd just continue the things I'd been doing: put money into it.  Senator Goldwater won't and will make the economy fail.

Goldwater: As far as the economy goes we need to have lower taxes and less government.

Rather: Last question, let's get to one social issue that's been brought up over the past couple decades: abortion?  Senator Goldwater?

Goldwater: I'm pro-choice.  Like my dad's said "abortion is not a conservative issue."

Kennedy: I'm very pro-choice and have been for as long as the issue was brought forward.

Rather: That's it.  Remember voting is November 6th.
