3.) Lame duck congressional session in Illinois (civil unions, abolition of death penalty, deficit reduction) (technically 2/3 of it in 2011...but same Congress Wink )

They managed to realize all that in the lame duck session?

Correct.

center-right unexpected victory in italian Regionals in Italy, especially Latium and Piedmont.

Ah, yes. Not that I'm a big Polverini fan but beating Bonino was so great.

2010 was my first general election and my majoritarian candidates won. My state deputy was defeated, but my federal deputy will get the office, because winners will go to Federal and State Cabinets. The centre-left gained a landslide with Dilma, Wagner, Lídice and Pinheiro. I loved to see old-time "caciques", like Jereissati, César Borges, Geddel, Maciel and Jarbas being destroyed at elections. Also, I will remember always of Plinio's performances at debates and Tiririca's election, like Romário and other celebrities wins. But my greatest moment was going to rally with Lula, Dilma and Wagner in Salvador.
My greatest frustration was the betrayal by LibDems of its ideals. I hoped that Clegg would help to change Britain for better and not for worse. Another sad thing was Republican's victories in USA. I hoped that 2010 could have been a landmark for reforms in America, blocking right-wing agenda for decades.

Imagine the brouhaha if they'd done that in a lame duck session after losing their majorities!

Illinois abolished the death penalty? Good news, thanks.

Well, technically, Quinn still has to sign it.....and he's not telling the media what he'll so, he'll "follow his conscience".

Doubt strongly that he'd really veto it though.

EDIT: And practically speaking, they have lost their "working majorities" with all the Democrats from the South. There's a real reason that Madigan and Cullerton pushed it through now.

I just can't thing of something.

Seeing Bayrou on TV live saying that he didn't say some things he actually said during a speech made on the eve was amusing though. A few hours later we heard he had an ictus, which made a short time amnesia. Finished to politically kill him I guess, didn't like it for sadism, was just amusing.

Oh, well, maybe the fact that the elections in Guinea-Bissau seem to have happened well too.

USA leaving Iraq too maybe.

The point is : with all the exceptional things that happened in the world in 2010, passionating contests Brazil, UK, Australia, a major health care bill passing in the US, followed by an unseen primary season and a somewhat surprising election night, not to forget interestings elections in Sweden, Belgium and many other countries, two highly mediatized and (initially) encouraging elections in Africa, your favorite moment in 2010 was... a damn and mostly useless French government change ?!?

I'm sorry but you chose French regional elections, which is at least as unimportant as the govt shift. Tongue

Oh, personally I would have forgotten the big turn out in Iraqi elections, I really liked it. And still in Iraq, I really liked when the President of the country canceled the death penalty of one political trial.

There we definitely disagree. And anyways French regionals were only the minor reason for my choice.

If someone said this in the next leadership debates, it'd resonate.

FTR, as I only read this today: I was of course joking Grin.

But the potential developments in the centre right fascinate me, of course.
When the MRG (PRG) was a "big" party (Tongue), I was also fascinated to try to put every local bigwig in the right wing inside the party.
Politics is only about elections and inside life of political parties, you know Cheesy !

This is the International General Discussion board, so it'd be cool if it wasn't taken over by illiterates talking about non-international events.

If they genuinely feel that they were the most important and positive political events of the year, they should post them. They're wrong, but they have a right to feel that way - after all, the US is part of the same world as the rest of us.
