When I clicked this thread I saw what you wrote and all I could see above it was the bottom picture in Lewis Trondheim's sig and I thought you lost  your marbles.  

For some reason, Italian men do tend to be handsome. They probably got that way through a selective culling of those whom they raped or something back in the days of Rome, when they got first dibs.  Of course, Phil has Sicilian blood, and well, the Greeks got quite a foothold there, back when, so maybe, Grumps, just maybe ... ?  

When are we going to be treated Grumps to another pic of your most desirable wife?  Yes, sorry I want to "see" her more than you, unless of course you have discovered recently a place that goes by the moniker "gym."

Interesting epitaph, Torrie.

You said it JJ.  In one photo we confirm that Torie's background is firmly upper-class, as well as get to know his grandmother who was apparently an extreme right-winger and social conservative!

That screed was penned by my first cousin once removed on his mother's grave stone.  He was a local lawyer in Winterset who was disbarred for defaming judges or something like that.  He was, in a word, a nutter.

Yes, the grammar and the punctuation of the epitaph rant leaves something to be desired doesn't it?  It was a bit of chore to read it out loud.  

On part of the farm, I fantasized that I was in Sherwood Forest. This little spot of earth was simply gorgeous to my eyes. It was almost as glorious as the countryside around Groombridge near Tunbridge Wells.

Lewis, are you assuming that that sentence refers to Communism? Because I thought it simply referred to Eastern European immigrants.

My guess is that it was an elliptical reference to Jews.  In certain quarters of a certain era, Jews, and Communism and Eastern Europe were rather crudely conflated.

It is really something of a myth that the american upper class is erudite, Lewis.  While admittedly they're probably only upper-middle-class, the point is Torie and his whole clan have firmly had the silver spoon in all their mouths.

I guess you missed the post where my Dad and his older brother had to work nights while in high school to support the family, while living in a tenement in Bedford Styversant (sp) (a bad neighborhood then as now), with no windows (it was an interior unit, illegal of course now), and no air conditioning. My clan has had its ups and downs. But yes, I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth (my Dad was a remarkable man, as was his brother). But other than a free higher education, I have not taken a dime from anyone, until of course the recent little inheritance. My share is one sixth. That is rounding error for me, but I do love the land, and plan to keep all of it other than the cropland.  I will because I can.

Yachts (I get seasick), and planes (airports suck) don't interest me Badger.  No the commercial would be about all the farm subsidies and property tax breaks that I get, as I walk along to the CRP land, the countercyclical land, the wetlands, and a nice tour of the FSA office with 15 government bureaucrats in it handing out the money to 800 farmers, and performing all kinds of little studies for me for "free."  It would be quite transfixing, trust me.

This is a snap of me this Sunday standing above a fine prospect of the Hudson Valley on the Vanderbilt estate grounds in Hyde Park. I was assigned doggie duty.

No, the huge building across the river is not a hospital or a prison - it's a monastery - one of a series of mansions devoted to the sacred referred to by the locals as "holy row."  The pads on the east side of the river are called "millionaires row."

So much of building muscle is genetic. As is building fat. Lifestyle is just half. I put on both pretty easily. While we're doing beefcake shots, here's me back in 2003 when I was working out regularly. It's an interesting photo as you can see how much I had grown in the five prior years since the small pic on the bottom left had been taken.

Nature does not want old men to have muscles. It wants the biologically washed up to shuffle off and die, so it arranges matters so old men can't hunt, at which time it is time to go up to the mountain top and assume room temperature. So all that is left is to fool nature with a little help from one's friends as it were.
