Jesus Christ.

That's not blasphemous; that is literal.  Jesus of Nazareth, that is.

The Republicans are going to need miracles, so Who better to provide them? The first miracle would be to achieve Constitutional eligibility, but as so many Fundamentalist Christians know, Jesus is an American. Fundraising? Karl Rogue would be envious of His talent at that.

Of course there would be some problems, notably that He wasn't known to schmooze with the fat cats of His day. His Sermon on the Mount of Olives was downright socialist, and His admonition to people to "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar and unto God what is God's"  might not set in especially well with those who want lower taxes. The GOP need miracles to make its absurd economic ideology work, but they would find a Miracle Worker.

He might even make inroads on the significant Jewish vote that Democrats have long thought sown up. He is Jewish, isn't He? Such might be good enough to swing some very close states that the Republicans absolutely need -- Colorado, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia while holding onto Arizona, Georgia, and  Missouri.

Heck, if He can turn water into wine, then maybe He can turn budget deficits into budget surpluses. How about it, folks?

I think JEB would be an excellent choice for VP and would all but guarantee victory for the GOP ticket.

Wild thought: If Romney'd be the nominee, what's there to stop him from picking Palin?

Because a towering intellect like Romney would not want a complete airhead like Palin on his ticket.

From the Mitt Romney wiki article:

Romney still wanted to pursue a business career, but his father, who by now was serving in President Richard Nixon's cabinet as U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, recommended that a law degree would be valuable. Thus Romney became one of only 15 students to enroll at the recently-created joint Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration four-year program coordinated between Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School. He graduated in 1975 cum laude from the law school, representing a standing in the top third of that class, and was named a Baker Scholar for graduating in the top five percent of his business school class.

The top academic honor at Harvard Business School is the Baker Scholar designation (High Distinction), given to the top 5% of the graduating MBA class.

Harvard Law School cum laude.

Harvard Business School Baker Scholar.

Sounds like a pretty towering intellect to me.

I've had the feeling a long time that if Romney is nominated Jim DeMint would be his pick.

*Strong Conservative from the south, tea-party darling.
*Not as disliked as some other tea-partiers (Palin)
* Supported Romney in '08

John Thune, Tim Pawlenty, or another moderate Midwesterner will be a good pick.

Did you just call John Thune a "moderate"?

Well, not exactly moderate, but someone who's conservative enough to rally the base but who isn't offensive to moderates.

If Romney does that...I'll be extremely unhappy with him for a while.

It won't happen, not just because DeMint is far too controversial and said controversy would detract from the Romney campaign, but also because DeMint wants to focus on being the conservative conscience in the Senate for his final term.

Someone who's said that single mothers shouldn't be schoolteachers is unlikely to get very far on a national ticket.  Romney could find another conservative who doesn't have a history of making such politically radioactive comments.

I would bet money on Marco Rubio being the VP nominee.

^^^^ I think he's serious. He's probably waiting until 2016 or 2020.
