Being able to carry in D.C., yes.  On the House floor, absolutely not.

No thank you. We don't want any of that concealed carry nonsense in the District, even if you are a redneck Congressman.

Why not? I'm sure it will contribute mightily to the political debate.

Yes, just what we need... a controversial bill like Obamacare comes up for vote in primetime and a teabagger with a weapon on C-SPAN.

I doubt a Congressman is gonna go off and shoot people; however, with security in the Capital as tight as it is, a gun is unnecessary.

You're right.  But an Alex Jones type ever gets elected by some dumb district, I could see over passionate debate leading to some violent acts.

Absolutely.  But Alex Jones is not "a teabagger with a weapon".

Are you willing to take your chances with Allen West?

Because his actions in Iraq are similar to debate on the House floor...

Not that I'm saying what he did in Iraq was acceptable, though.

I disagree.  There's no evidence that he's not entirely with it upstairs.

Except for the fact that he asked his supporters to make his opponent "afraid to leave his house", asking the government to censor the media after the Wikileaks wires and wanting to hire as his COS a radio-jock that wanted to use bullets in case ballots didn't work.

I really don't find it at all hard to imagine that politicians may have stress and emotional problems which could lead to murderous actions.  In some ways they're more tightly wound than average, even in our tightly wound society - particularly those with very intolerant and chimerical ideologies such as are, alas, extremely common in america.

I don't know the context of the first quote (and couldn't find it anywhere with a quick Google search).

As to censoring the media, there is a legitimate argument that any transmission of classified documents (even after they're leaked) is a violation of federal law (I've gone over that in the Wikileaks thread quite a bit).

And yes, while the remark by Kaufman was extremely out of line and inappropriate, it doesn't necessarily reflect West's view himself.

http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/gop-congressional-candidate-allen-west

"Let me tell you what you've got to do," said West, a retired lieutenant colonel. "You've got to make the fellow scared to come out of his house. That's the only way that you're going to win. That's the only way you're going to get these people's attention."

With Gohmert... I wouldn't rule it out.
