Well, when you're old enough, I'll become a Democrat just to vote for you in the primary

One good thing about all this is at least "God Bless America" won't ever be the national anthem.  Nothing against the song, but I much prefer "The Star-Spangled Banner" and tire from hearing calls to replace it.

All references to God should be removed and all aspects leading up to non-sense nationalism.

Mainly because, I believe in world federalization.

Have you ever considered becoming DNC chairman? We might be one step closer to 100 Senate seats.

As to God, I am sick and tired of him.

Enough is enough.

In no other civilized country does this obsession play any role.

And because you and other liberals want to turn this into an atheist paradise, you're going to burn all books and documents that references God, starting with the Declaration of Independence.

Hmm.

60 in 2006.  Keep it up libz.

Where and when did I express this view?

Abolish Religion in the US first, then begin eradicating this backward evil throughout the world.

I hereby dub this topic the stupidest topic of the month.

Not the initial post.  That was fine.

The subsequent massive and completely pointless flame war is what I'm talking about.

The French tried it in the 1790's; it didn't work.

It's not so much that Democrats would support this type of nonsense.  I have a feeling few would.  It's more that Republicans will seize on this and use it to define the apex of liberalism and political correctness.  The electorate would see that as a path that we don't want to go down and subsequently identify with the Republicans, whether or not a specific Democratic candidate had anything to do with this at all.  To provide a hedge against this, Democrats should condemn the actions of this school and its principal.  My guess is that they won't, though...in the interest of everyone's sensitivities.

Trust me, there are wackos on both sides of this issue.  There are certainly folks who want history written so the dastardly "God" won't make any appearances that could make a handicapped athiest Nigerian transvestite "uncomfortable" in the classroom.  Then there are your religious nuts who want Christianity forced on everyone.  They're both wrong, but the point is, the Declaration of Independence SHOULD NOT BE CENSORED whatsoever.  It is a historical document, not a religious expression.

I don't know why I give them good advice, but the Democrats (if they were smart) would come out against this before Republicans seize on it.  My guess is, rather, that this principal will be sitting next to Jimmy Carter at the next Dem Convention.

Except that it had nothing to do with the 2004 U.S. Presidential Election Results.

Of course, some of the most backwards, evil nations have been secular(and forced secularism). Any unnecessary use of force by government usually leads to evil government that oppresses it's people.

It is also possible that the teacher was using the documents mentioned to advance the notion that we are somehow a Christian nation, and that the founding fathers were all Christians.  We know that this notion is false, and the principal would be correct in stopping the teacher.

The founders were very religious people. To deny it is to be a revisionist. Which of course most colleges and schools are full of, revisionist teachers.

The founders were not all religious. Please get your history correct. Wait, who am I kidding? You're a southerner...I shouldn't expect you to get history right.

You really need to study your history.

While the founding fathers did have a variety of religious beliefs,  they were neither athiests nor agnostics..

Yes. Personal diaries are certainly an unbiased source of history.

The argument on "the table" is if the various founding fathers were a religious lot.

If we were to read, say Jefferson's Diaries, this would indeed IMHO, be a fairly good guide to the degree to which Jefferson was religious.

Repeat for all availble founding fathers...

In totality, these diaries would indeed provide good insight into the degree of religiosity of the Founders IMHO.

In addition to the diaries, the extensive correspondence between men in public life.

Especially the letters between Adams and Jefferson after both had left the Presidency.
