Anyone think he could go down? He got elected in an Obama district many times yes, but that was back when he was a boring backbencher no one cared about. Now he is the chief architect of what is causing severe pain for the GOP in far more conservative seats than his.

Granted we kind of have to assume the Dems recall control of the Senate to block him being drawn a much safer map.

If Democrats actually targetted him, I could easily see him losing.

Agree that it depends on redistricting, but if he ends up with the same map he has now, then he could have some problems. He's drawn far to much attention to himself not to draw a strong challenge.

Seems very likely that he could be defeated given that, yes, his district was won by Barack Obama in 2008. IIRC, his district is pretty close to Chicago, which I'm sure will be flooded with lots of Obama campaign ads in 2012, so maybe if they just air a lot of ads bringing up Paul Ryan as the Kill Medicare Guy, I'm sure that could help.

In fairness, we do owe him a debt of gratitude for handing us a now very likely chance of retaking control of the House, and I'm sure Nancy Pelosi is his new best friend now that he's all but put the gavel back in her hand.

Yes, he's in danger unless there's a Republican gerrymander. We've already got a strong candidate: http://www.robzerban.com/

Why wouldn't they? It would be a huge victory.  Especially if his budget is still backed going into 2012.

The biggest problem is that he seat would be easy to shore up, there are three cities in it that house basically all the Democrats, so you just have to remove one. But that would be moot if the Wisconsin Senate falls, which is looking not too unlikely.

The key for the Democrats in defeating Ryan is to break his stranglehold on Janesville, which is ordinarily a very Democratic small city (around 65-70% Obama) but votes about 60% for Paul Ryan because it's his home town and they love him. Otherwise, he runs about like a generic Republican in the rest of the district. Quite how to dislodge him from the affections of Janesville is a whole different venture.
