Child Abuse, Bigotry Rampant in Britain’s Muslim Schools
Alana Goodman 02.14.2011 - 12:37 PM

At one elementary school, children as young as six are hit, slapped, and kicked by a teacher up to 10 times in a three-hour period. At another, students are taught that Hindus drink cow urine and have “no intellect.” These are just two instances of disturbing classroom behavior caught on camera by a Channel 4 investigation into Britain’s Islamic schools:

Filming intermittently over a period of four months, the camera recorded children being taught a hardline, intolerant and highly anti-social version of Islam. …

In just two days of filming in December 2010, the camera recorded the teacher hitting children as young as six or seven at least ten times, in less than three hours of lessons.

From what we could see, every single blow was pretty much unprovoked. We soon realised that the beatings were routine. The behaviour of the boys, the way they flinched and backed away when he approached, indicated that they were long-accustomed to being hit and kicked as they studied.

The footage is being shown on Dispatches tonight so I won't comment until it has been shown. There has been some spinning on this already from both sides.

However I have already noticed the trend of the use of the 'spectre' of the EDL as a new close-down mechanism; 'it'll play into the hands of the EDL' is the new attempt to put a cork on discussion of issues that need to be discussed. Certainly this school has to be investigated.

The general crappiness of islamic schools in Western Europe is another good reason to oppose measures that seem to deliberately push Muslim pupils towards them. That's part of why a ban on headscarfs in schools/public places is a bad idea.

Agreed. Entirely.

Just abolish all faith schools: Catholic, Jewish, CofE, Islamic, etc. Problem solved.

Nice alarmist headline there.

Just abolish all faith schools: Catholic, Jewish, CofE, Islamic, etc. Problem solved.

Except that it wouldn't as the school in question is an independent school.

That's private schools for you, regardless of the religion.

Agree. People often forget that head scarves were a common feature of European dress until the 1950s and are still worn by a good number of old women.

Islamic dress is about modesty. It's arguably about promoting women as people, not sex objects; so you talk to their faces not their chests. If people want to wear it, that's their choice.

Until the 1950s? I can remember more than a few people wearing them when I was little. Mind you, I did live out of the way just a bit.

I remember that too, but it had less to do with modesty and more to do with shielding themselves from the elements Smiley

I still see old women wearing headscarfs over here, though they tend to be in plastic these days.

While this isn't the headscarf thread, I have to say that banning it always seemed like an extremely childish move by a majority that wanted to bully a specific minority. I can't think of any other credible reason for defending a ban.

Concerned parents have helped the police launch an investigation into child beatings that have allegedly taken place at 3 mosque run madrasses in Glasgow.
