Gotta love, SC....

COLUMBIA, S.C. Three months after losing his improbable campaign for U.S. Senate, Alvin Greene is on the ballot again in South Carolina.

This time, the 33-year-old is trying to win the Democratic nomination for a state House seat anchored in his central South Carolina hometown of Manning.

Can we please, please not allow Grumps' staggering stupidity to derail another thread?

Depending on what this district is like, I'm serious when I say he might actually win this.

It's black-majority, so if he wins the primary he'll certainly/quasi-certainly win the general.

Well yeah, the primary is the real election. Though there are actually two Republicans seeking the seat as well.

However...

perhaps not. One of his opponents is the mayor of Manning. Another is on the school board of the other county in the district (and is the only Democratic candidate from that county). The fourth guy is some Manning realtor who is apparently the White Democrat counting candidate.

I gotta say though - if Alvin Greene wins this election, then that ridiculous filing fee for Senator will turn out to actually have been a wise investment decision. Why is the seat vacant, btw?

I believe SC primaries go to a runoff if noone wins 50%? Does that also hold in special elections?

I just checked, and while majority Black it's not exactly a supermajority. 55-45 or thereabouts.

I think that he's using this as a stepping stone for a gubernatoial campaign in 2014 or senatorial campaign in 2016.

The woman who previously held the seat passed right after the election.

Mind you, that school board member did no better. 61% for the mayor, 36% for whitey.

This thread is eerily similar to a thread about another state house race not too long ago...

Let's just hope that after today Greene's relatives will do what's right and put him in a mental institution.

How well did Greene do in the Senatorial primary here? He presumably won it comfortably, right? Going from maybe 60% to 1% in the span of less than a year probably breaks numerous records.

I bet he would have gotten at least 6% if Phil would have campaigned for him.

But now, Hash, when Alvin is gone, we need to figure out new friend for Collor.
