George Herbert Walker Bush is reelected to a second term in 1992. Economy isn't excellent, but not bad at all. How would 1996 elections look?
I've got an idea:
Democratic Party Nominee is Al Gore. He chooses Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California as his running mate.
GOP nominee is Dan Quayle. He chooses Sen. John McCain of Arizona as his running mate.
Discuss w/maps.

Quayle would be a terrible presidential nominee. I think that in this scenario McCain would be the 2000 nominee, though, and probably defeat Gore.

In my opinion, next elections would look like this:
2000:
Sen. John McCain(R-AZ)/Gov. Tom Ridge(R-PA) 370 EV
President Al Gore(D-TN)/Vice President Dianne Feinstein(D-CA)
168 EV

2004:
President John McCain(R-AZ)/Vice-President Tom Ridge(R-PA)
447 EV
Former Vice-President Dianne Feinstein(D-CA)/House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt(D-MO)
91 EV

2008:
Sen. Barack Obama(D-IL)/Gov. Kathleen Sebelius(D-KS)
269 EV
Sen. Fred Thompson(R-TN)/Fmr. Gov. Mike Huckabee(R-AR)
269 EV
Obama wins in the House.
But this is only my opinion.

There is 0 chance Obama would have gone anywhere except to the Senate under that scenario.

I don't know why people think that McCain would win by a landslide in an election...if he was that good of a politician, then he would have won an upset over Barack Obama in rl.

Not sure about the 2nd part, but in 99 polls Bush was outperforming McCain against Gore.

Anyway, the nod probably would have gone to an establishment type like Lamar Alexander, not Dan Quayle.

Alright Mr. Genius,  did you happen to forget that the economy tanked and every Republican was blamed for it? I was impossible for McCain to win then.

If McCain had won an upset on election night...it would have proven that americans care more about character and service than slick politicians and questionable values...

"Character" is a desperate last resort for a politician, who have no clue, what to do in office.

Absolutely not

Just did a little research on this topic yesterday that reinforces (albeit for different reasons) my belief that Quayle could not be the nominee in 96:
