I thought the elections were pretty similar, with the same major candidates and all. But I noticed a big Democratic trend in the rural west, countered by a big Republican trend in the Northeast. So you have New York and Massachusetts more Republican than both nation and traditionally Republican states like South Dakota. What happened?

Yeah, I feel the same. In a tied election, Stevenson would have lost MA and RI, but won MT and the West Coast ! This has always thrilled me. Huh
