He behaves like an actor, too. He says what the script calls for, never what he thinks to be true - I'm not sure he's familiar with the concept actually.
But the "scandal"... well, lol. There's hardly any law or medicine diss that isn't plagiarism.

There was a "scandal" a few years ago about ghostwritten doctoral theses, mostly in medicine IIRC (where the title is worth real money). Nobody prominent was involved, but Guttenberg's uni was.

There is a ten-page paper he commissioned the Bundestag research dep't to write for him in there. Unabridged and unmarked, of course. This is arguably embezzlement of government funds. Cheesy

Mark Foley would just lead to rules changes saying pages have to be 21. If pages existed here in the first place. Tongue

Guttenberg has just done what he would have done three days ago if he'd had any sense.
Admitted shameless plagiarizing, shown just a wee bit of humility, refused to see a resigning matter. This probably ends things. It would certainly have ended things three days ago.

It doesn't affect his popularity with the hardcore partisan CDU / antisocialist crowd and with the brainless / Springer dependent crowd (some overlap here), where he's still divine and untouchable, nor with the hardcore partisan leftwing crowd because there's only so far below minus 100% that you can go. So I'd say not at all (unless, say, an unexpected vacancy in the chancellorship occurs very soon or whatever).

Yah, there's another poll that gives roughly the same positive/negative breakdown as ever, but asked a separate question whether your opinion of him had gotten worse or stayed the same (I think they included an improved option, not that anyone said that), and, well. Lots of "worse but still good" (as well as "even worse than before") people around.

At least in Germany ministers are intelligent enough to resign themselves instead of staying for some weeks and then getting kicked out.
Maybe, maybe not. We will never know.
He did inform his owners (Merkel and Bild) on monday... and one of them broke the story 45min in advance. Guess which one.

Merkel ?

No. She has better manners than that. Smiley
