It looks pretty serious, IMO.

Guttenberg has just done what he would have done three days ago if he'd had any sense.
Admitted shameless plagiarizing, shown just a wee bit of humility, refused to see a resigning matter. This probably ends things. It would certainly have ended things three days ago.

I wonder if it really is over.

Since his job is non-academic, it is up to his bosses to decide what's to be done. In academica he'd be out very fast (by the slow-moving academic standards, of course).

The government is saying it has no effect on his work as Defense Minister.

I don't think Guttenberg should resign, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't affect my opinion of him.

Now that the media has run their usual circus and forced him out....can we please stop hearing about this in every news program?

Mostly, he forced himself out.

As far as the media is concerned, it's good to know that SPIEGEL is still more powerful than BILD. Tongue

I wonder if this would have turned out any differently if Guttenberg hadn't blatantly lied about his guilt when the scandal first came out.

I'd think so....but the media hasn't really been concerned with that, or at least it seems that way.

And they say there is no good news. Baron Münchhausen is gone.Grin

I've known him a long time because I am also from Upper Franconia. Even with his resignation he was a vain self-promoter.

Thankfully, I'm reasonably sure that Guttenberg will be back Smiley
