Enlighten me as to why Irish were pissed off in 1924? 1920 is obvious, but I can't remember a reason for 1924. Something Davis did maybe?

He was a dry and favored the Ku Klux Klan.

Davis actually denounced the Klan after the Convention, but Convention's refusal of Al Smith's candidacy and Smith's call to condemn the Klan in the platform was more ubiquitous.

Maybe not any more pissed off as they were in 1920 (I would actually say less so) but the Democratic National Convention of 1924 probably didn't give them any real incentive to get cheery about the election.  I mean if this was say 1864, 1868, 1872, or maybe even 1904 I could understand the argument that the Republican nominee was exciting but in 1924?  Granted Silent Cal was from Massachusetts but the town by town results in my opinion are pretty damning.  There has to be more than the "homeboy" effect to put him over that much in 1924.

Granted, Eisenhower won nearly 60% of the vote in 1956 but he was a former Supreme Allied Commander and a wide acclaimed incumbent seeking re-election (then again, to pre-empt my future touche, so was Coolidge).

Since you just did 1924, 1928 would be interesting. Also, I'd suggest using a different template for your maps if you can. I can get you a cleaner blank MA town map if you want.

That'd be great!

Sorry for the delay. The weekend has been a little bit hectic.

More maps will be on the way...

He won the big towns, and that's all that matters.

Actually, Kennedy's results in Massachusetts are pretty poor if you compare them with following elections. The relative democratic margin of victory was lower in 1960 than in 1964, 68, 72, 96, 2000 and 2004.

MA was on a D trend but was still pretty Republican compared to today.

Yeah, but he was able to make up for it in Suffolk County (which actually cast 70,000 more ballots compared to 2008)

Dallasfan, I think your 1928 map is missing Enfield (one of the Quabbin towns).

It seems to be a "swing" or marginal town in the early 20th century. Though it voted Democratic in '28, it was Republican in '24 and also in the 1940s. Once it started attracting the LGBT community in the 60s and 70s, the Democratic margins really took off.

LOL.

Unfortunately...
.
Dallasfan, I think your 1928 map is missing Enfield (one of the Quabbin towns).

I included it, I just made it rather shoddily as I was in a bit of a hurry to crank this out (since I delayed.) I'll patch it up tonight, along with the Coolidge error.

1928 is fixed.

Also, since uploading a map to the database was rather vexing (though I shall re-attempt later) here is 1964 MA Gov, by County.

I'd love to see Brooke's Senate races, especially '66.
