November 2040

After the election, President-elect Julian Rudolf quickly gathers his transition team and begins the transitioning process into the Presidential Mansion in Denver, Colorado. He meets privately with President Newsom, who recently turned 73 years old, regarding stagflation and concerns over a recession.

Newsom's approval drops to 33% by December 2040 as unemployment and inflation both increase. Congress passes its own reform/economic package with bipartisan support but it is vetoed by President Newsom. The outgoing Congress overrides his veto and it becomes law.

January 2041

President Gavin Newsom came into office with unemployment at 13% and inflation at 15%. He leaves office with inflation back up at 15% and unemployment at 9% hitting a 24-year low of 7.5% during his time in office (in 2035).

The House of Representatives, which is tied 268-268 with 3 independents, begins its leadership battle. Both sides try to convince the 3 independents to caucus with its party --eventually the Patriots Party wins the battle convincing 2 of the 3 independents to caucus with them, creating a 270-269 majority in the House.

Speaker Marcia Fulva, who was the 2040 Patriots Party's Vice Presidential nominee, loses a leadership battle within her own party after being blamed for the ticket's loss. Faron Wekesa of Louisiana is elected as Speaker of the House and is the first African American to hold this position.

President Rudolf Julian and Vice President Giles Franklin are inaugurated on January 20, 2041. In his inauguration speech he quotes President Theodore Roosevelt's inaugural address from 1904, 137 years ago.

EPILOGUE

Historians agree that the Presidency of Julian Rudolf was the final President of the 30 year recovery period for the United States. Even though many of the post-catastrophe President's would only serve one term or less a few of them would join the ranks of the greatest Presidents of all time. Obama Administration Secretary of Defense and President post-tsunami would rank eternally amongst Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln for leading the United States out of the initial chaos that was the Tsunami.

President Charles Hagel, who was assassinated in Denver, would go down in the history books for giving the nation a vision to strive towards in the era after the tsunami where many people had lost hope. His death served as making this vision a permanent fixture in American society with every President after him in the recovery period citing this vision.

Presidents Kamala Harris and Kimberly Reynolds, both controversial in their  own rights, were the first Presidents to truly attempt to implement the Hagel vision in their own accord. Their actions put the country on a firm road to recovery.

President Aaron Schock, although convicted of high crimes and jailed, was the first President to be reelected during the recovery period. His work on alternative energy sources helped put America on the independent track.

Presidents Newsom and Julian would also join the ranks of Washington, Lincoln, Gates, Hagel and Jefferson amongst the few other "great" Presidents. They seized the reigns of the expanding economy and pushed America over the edge into a new era in history.

President Rudolf Julian would go onto be reelected but unfortunately not able to serve out the last 8 months of his second term due to an assassins bullet. Vice President Giles Franklin will finish the term and serve one of his own becoming the second Progressive President in American history and see unemployment go below 5% for the first time in a long time.

In the end, there would be 118 American Presidents before the end of the Republic and the Union.

MOST EFFECTIVE PRESIDENTS OF THE RECOVERY PERIOD

1) Robert M. Gates - Most Effective
2) Charles T. Hagel
3) Kamala Harris
4) Kimberly Reynolds
5) Julian Rudolf
6) Gavin Newsom
8.) Aaron Schock
9) Blaine Luetkemeyer
10) Phillip Gordon
11) Dustin McDaniel

12) Lisa Madigan - Least Effective

It ends on an ominous note though...saying there will be one day be a last president. That would actually make a good timeline.
