Credit to Cathcon and Kal.

1948-After a heated election campaign, Republican Thomas Dewey and Vice Presidential candidate Earl Warren defeat President Truman, and VP Alban Barkley. The Dixiecrat Party organizes better, and manages to win a few more states then predicted, as well as elect 12 members of the House of Representatives, and almost win a few seats in the Senate. Progressive Henry Wallace fails to break 2%, but raises awareness on civil rights issues.

Governor Thomas Dewey/Governor Earl Warren-267 EV, 47.56% of the PV
President Harry Truman/Vice President Alben Barkley-205 EV, 45.44% of the PV.
Senator Strom Thurmond/Governor Fielding Wright-205 E, 6% of the PV.
Former Vice PresidentHenry Wallace/Senator Glen Taylor-1%

President Dewey was inaugurated, and soon went to work. By 1950, his reconstruction program had rebuilt the economy of Western Europe, and curbed the Soviet influence in war ravaged Greece, and Yugoslavia.

In 1950, midterms go well. War in Korea brakes out. US troops were called to battle, and in less then a year, had pushed the North Koreans back to the Yalu. However, China intervened, and the region became a hell. Under Secretary of Defense Eisenhower's advice, nuclear weapons were not used. The Chinese agreed to withdrawl, if the US and French would leave Vietnam. As a result, Korea united under capitalism, and Vietnam fell into a disastrous civil war.

In 1952, Democrats were eager to retake the White House. At a divided convention, Adlai Stevenson, and Joesph Kennedy Senior were nominated, over Former President Truman, and Estes Kefauver. The only challenge President received at the Republican convention, was from Ohio Senator Robert Taft, who conceded the nomination on the 2nd ballot, and endorsed the President.

President Thomas Dewey/Vice President Earl Warren-369 EV, 52.51% of the PV
Senator Adlai Stevenson/Senator Estes Kefauver-162 EV, 48.49% of the PV

After winning re-election, President Dewey pushed a Civil Rights Bill. He eventually got the Civil Rights Act of 1957, which de-segregated many schools within the South. In 1956, freshman Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater announced he would run for President. He was followed by Governor Christian Herter, of Massachusetts and Vice President Earl Warren. Finnally, at the convention, Vice President Warren won the nomination.

At the Democratic convention, it took 1 ballot to nominate Adlai Stevenson again, with Estes Kefauver being nominated for Vice President. Strom Thurmond did not seek the States Rights Party nomination, and many abandonned the Party. At their convention, they nominated Fielding Wright, and Senator Harry Byrd.

Vice President Earl Warren/Governor Christian Herter-372 EV, 51% of the PV.
Governor Fielding Wright/Senator Harry Byrd-81 EV, 29% of the PV
Senator Adlai Stevenson/Senator Estes Kefauver-78 EV, 20% of the PV

President-Elect Warren would go on to be the 35th President, but will the expansion of communism, the Civil Rights movement, and the rise of the Kennedys hurt his chances?

Just one thing. Joe Kennedy's political career as a possible candidate himself died in 1940, after his infamous interview. No way he'd ever be on the national ticket.

In 1958, the Presidents popularity was low. The Cuban Civil War had turned violent fast, and within months, it would be controlled by pro Castro forces. In Haiti, dictator Francois Duvalier has turned drasticly against the US, and courts the Soviet Union. In Africa, the process of de-colonization begins, and fears of Communist takeover are ripe in the remaining colonies.

Early in 1960, Senator John Kennedy,Senator Lyndon Johnson, Senator Stuart Symington,Senator Lyndon Johnson, and Senator Hubert Humphrey all declare there intentions for the Democratic nomination. At the convention, John Kennedy is nominated, and he picks Senator George Smathers as his runnning mate.

Republicans nominate President Warren, and VP Herter once again. The States Rights Party nominates Fielding Wright and Alabama Governor John Patterson.

The campaign focuses on Civil Rights. President Warren tries to push a moderate measure to appeal to Southernors, however, he losses much of their support in the process. Kennedy takes a moderate path as well, appealing to unite the Democratic Party, and kill off the States Rights Party. By election day, polling shows a Kennedy lead by 10%.

Senator John Kennedy/Senator George Smathers-331 EV, 49% of the PV
President Earl Warren/Vice President Christian Herter-187 EV, 41% of the PV
Former Governor Fielding Wright/Governor John Patterson-19 EV, 10% of the PV

And I obivously need help with map codes Smiley. Can someone help me with that?

Dude map codes are real easy.  Whenever you make your electoral vote map just click the "Show Map Link" button and it'll pull up a window with the image code for the election.  All you have to do from there is copy the image code and then paste it in your timeline.

Here, I'll show you an example (be sure to quote my post to see the code):'

The First Term of President Kennedy started rough, with the deployment of troops to Cuba, where a full blown civil war had broken out. President Batista finally took control in early 1962. The President also was challenged by the Soviet Union, which led to a nuclear standoff in Europe. The Middle East had its second Arab-Isreali war in 1961, which led to Syria, Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan being defeated by the young Israeli nation.

The President was injured in a assassination attempt while campaigning for re-election in Texas. The assailant was Lee Harvey Oswald, who was arrested days later. His motives were never fully clear, and he died in prison in 1979.

In Africa, the independence movement was taking full swing. And in Indochina, the Communist finnally took over South Vietnam and Cambodia. Kennedys approval ratings fell, but remained at a steady 49% in August, of 1964.

The first Republican to declare was Senator Richard Nixon, of California. He was followed by New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller, Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater, and former Vice President Christian Herter. Sbnator Nixon won the nomination, and selected Pennsylvania governor William Scranton as his running mate.

President John Kennedy/Vice President George Smathers-403 EV, 57% of the PV.
Senator Richard Nixon/Governor William Scranton-135 EV, 42% of the PV
Others (States Rights, Socialist Workers,Progressive)-0 EV, 1% of the PV

President Kennedy began his second term. He focused on Civil Rights, and finnally passed the Civil Rights Bill in 1965, as well as the creation of the Department of Housing and Urban Devolpment, the Walter Quality Act, the Immigration Act, and finnally, the failed National Health Insurance Act. The President declined a third term in 1968, but campaigned for his brother Robert to be elected Governor of Rhode Island in 1968.

New York had a Senate race in 1968 that Bobby would be able to run for.

In early 1968, there were four major Democrat canidates vying for the nomination. They included Dixecrat leader, and Alabama Governor George Wallace, Senator Hubert Humphrey, Senate Majority Leader Lyndon Johnson, and Vice President Smathers. While Humphrey and Wallace won the primaries, it was at a divided and violent convention that George Smathers won the nomination. He selected Hubert Humphrey as his running mate.

On the Republican side, the convention was also heated. Senator Richard Nixon seeked the nomination once more, but failed to gain traction anywhere in the primary. Conservatives and Libertarians supported Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater, and moderates favored New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller. On the second ballot, Barry Goldwater edged out Rockefeller, and choose California Governor Ronald Reagan as his running mate. George Wallace publicly endorsed the ticket.

Vice President George Smathers/Senator Hubert Humphrey-299 EV, 52.21% of the PV
Senator Barry Goldwater/Governor Ronald Reagan-239 EV, 48.79% of the PV

Oh-I forgot about that. Bobby Kennedy is stuck in Rhode Island then. Actually, I like the idea of changing where he is from, Rhode Island deserves a major fiigure, and John Chafee doesnt make the cut!

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I was hoping you could be biased towards Goldwater! That only leaves Rockefeller in 1972, and if he fails, then Reagan in 1976, and he can't win re-election in 1980!

In 1970, the midterm results drasticly show Americans are tired of the Democratic Party. Republicans, led by Gerald Ford, take the House and almost take the Senate. They block several of the Presidents programs in Congress, and in 1971, a budget battle leads to a government shutdown. Moderate Republicans take advantage of the situation, and push Nelson Rockefellers canidacy for President in 1972.

The President faced only a mild challenge from Senator George McGovern, who later formed the New Progressive Party in August, of 1972. The Republican primaries were a battle between Governor Ronald Reagan, and Governor Nelson Rockefeller. Polls fell against the Conservatives, and at the Republican convention, Nelson Rockefeller was nominated. He chose Speaker Ford to be his running mate.

On election day, Rockefeller was victorious, but Shirley Chishom made history, being the first African American woman to receive electoral votes. The McGovern/Chisholm ticket won Washington DC by a 5% margin, but the "New Progressive Party" made no gains in Congress.

Governor Nelson Rockefeller/Speaker Gerald Ford-270 EV, 52% of the PV
President George Smathers/Vice President Hubert Humphrey-265 EV, 47% of the PV
Senator George McGovern/Congresswoman Shirly Chisholm-3 EV, 1% of the PV

For some reason I don't see Nelson Rockefeller winning over 60% in Texas.

Otherwise it's a pretty good TL.

I forgot to fix Texas-no Rockefeller would barely win Texas, if he did at all! Sorry, I presssed the post button and had to finish part of the timeline. The New Progressive Party was a short lived movement, but it will have a impact on 1976, and 1980......

President Rockefellers first term was fairly sucessfull. In 1973, a American won the space-race, and put a Man on the Moon. The US deployed peacekeepers in Vietnam, where all but Saigon had fallen to Communist, and in Cuba, Batistas regime was coming to a close. The condition the economy enjoyed, was less stable. Un-employment, and inflation were slowly rising. The Presidents relations with Conservatives were not good, and California Senator Ronald Reagan was considering launching a primary challenge. Vice President Ford did not seek a second term, and as a branch to Conservatives, President Rockefeller asked Senator Reagan to be his running mate.

The Democratic Primary started as a four way battle, with Governor Robert Kennedy, Senator Henry Jackson, Represenative Mo Udall, and Senator Lloyd Bentsen. At the Democratic convention, Robert Kennedy was nominated. He asked Senator Lloyd Bentsen to be his running mate. The New Progressive Party renamed itself the "Peoples Party". They focused on the Congressional races, mainly, but renominated George McGovern, and Shirley Chisholm as there ticket.

President Nelson Rockefeller/Senator Ronald Reagan-287 EV, 49.40% of the PV
Governor Robert Kennedy/Senator Lloyd Bentsen-248 EV, 45.30% of the PV
Senator George McGovern/Shirley Chisholm-3 EV, 6.20% of the PV
The Peoples Party won DC again, and managed to take 25 seats in the House of Represenatives.

There's one more problem. When Biden was elected in 1972, he was just short of 30, which is minimum age for a Senator to serve. In 1976, he would be 34 in November.

35 is a constitutional minimum for both President and Vice President.

Dang-that explains why he didnt run in 76, I was thinking about that for a whole another timeline. I will change that problem.
