The man had his flaws, but he left the country far better than it was when he was elected. Happy anniversary for every lefist, and a special thought for the millions of people who have experienced the joy of this moment. Smiley

And of course, let's hope France will finally get a second left-wing President next year...

One of the more pro-US leaders of those people.

It's about a time. Left didn't win presidential election since 1988.

My gut feeling tells me Sarkozy will pull it off somehow. He seems to be an ardent campaigner who is able to rise to the challenge. I might be entirely wrong, though.

Someone (don't remember who), has put it perfectly : "Sarkozy can't win in 2012, but the PS can lose". No matter how hard Sarkozy campaign, the French are done with him and they won't buy again in his empty promises. At the same time, the PS can very well screw things completely and for the third time steal defeat from the jaws of victory. 2002 and 2007 could have been landslide victories if the campaign had been half-decent.

The man had his flaws, but he left the country only the EU far better than it was when he was elected.

Or before 1981.

Not that it was a long time, from 1965 to 1981, considering there were no direct presidential elections at all, except of 1848.
