Well, yeah. It'll happen, but is this a game changer?

The same thing happened a few weeks ago. It's so obviously an action by the Assad regime to distract from the real protests across Syria at the moment.

Probably not. The capacity of the American mind to draw false distinctions, to deliberately blur for itself the basic nature of our 'ally' Israel, to resist temptations to compare it with other regimes in the region, and the essentially cathartic bond it shares with the Israelis, is unmatched.

Israel needs to reposition itself in respect to the Syrians. Syrian mistrust of Israel is the only thing still keeping support alive for Assad. Knock out Assad's "opposition" to Israel, which is probably the only reason Syrians still tolerate him, and the regime probably falls apart.

Yeah, never mind that they did have weapons.  Never mind that a state of war exists between the two countries.  Never mind that Syrian security forces allowed their own civilians to wander into their own mine field (that was on fire from the Molotov cocktails the "allegedly unarmed protesters" threw earlier).

Seriously, what is about this conflict that makes people lose any vestige of common sense?
