This is such a personal decision on so many levels, that to express an opinion as to what you would do in Weiner's shoes, which is really the only relevant question here, is rather inane to my mind.  Folks outside of a clan opining as to what should happen within, is rarely of much value. The complexity of inter personal relationships, and what we don't know, and what those within really don't know, suggests just butting out on a question like this.

Having said all of this, Weiner has basically destroyed his political career. Dumbs don't last long in the NYC orbit, and Weiner has acted as the dunce primus inter pares here.

He's done - politically.

What the hell does that have to do with anything? And Weiner is Jewish anyway.

The fact that you approve of him (and we all know why you put him in your sig) should make it clear that your "Christianity" is an act.

I'd ask, what does Weiner's Judaism have to do with anything? It's the fact that you, as a "Christian", are applauding him for his recent actions that I'm criticizing.

He was never good at actually passing legislation, what's he going to do now? What purpose does he now serve?

good background reading on the subject

His recent actions have no effect on him in Congress.

Hold the seat until it's torn up in 2012.

Oh, I thought you were pushing for him past that!

Yes, him staying in his seat until 2012, when he'll lose the game of musical chairs, is what every calculative Democrat should probably hope for.

I think that's a fairly solid position to hold.

(of course, if the courts were to draw or affect the seat in the redistricting process...)

Uh, no. Even if we assumed that it didn't, you can't claim "yes, he did something wrong, but it doesn't affect him as a politician." We know why you put up a signature saying he is a "Freedom Fighter" (!) and why it wasn't there until recently--you approve of what he did, and that's not Christian.

Resign?  No.  He shouldn't run for reelection, though.

No, of course not. The whole circus around this issue is incredibly hypocritical and based on some weird double standard that I can't stand. The people that seems to care about this have their own totally separate motivations; the media, hypocritical republican activists and politicians, and Democrats desperately attempting to look good. He should keep his head down and it'll be over in a month. Even if Fox News wants to try and maintain this for as long as possible, it still can't last that much longer.

Yes I didn't put him in my sig until he came under fire and was embattled.

If I was in a Christian hardcore band, would you consider me Christian?

He's 46, so his lower limit is 30. His wife is 34.

Stories of him going after young interns go back a while, but it's not proven, I think

Ahh... The best part of any internet forum is when people start rating each others Christianity.

I specifically said the spirit of the law.  Sexting a woman who is 17, 21, or 26 is just not halal according to the honorable Elijah Muhammad.

I don't interpret it like that. It's not a violation any more than me getting a lapdance from a 18 or 19-year old stripper is (though I still refuse to.) I don't even consider it a violation if opebo hires a prostitute below his lower limit.

Y'all might be better off if Weiner didn't resign immediately.

A Republican friend of mine suggested that the GOP should "wait for the perp walk; then blitz 11."

Ive had suspicions that this was heading toward that.  The original girl was 21 and knowing that several people he DM'd were under 18... well where there is smoke there is fire. It is better for the GOP the longer he sticks around.

In light of this scandal: No.

However, should he, like a vast majority of Congress, resign in disgrace of helping propel this nation headlong into yet another era of enormous government expansion?  Why yes.
