Say if Pete McCloskey pulled a Arlen Specter and switch Democtratic where winning the nomination, where John Ashbrok faces incumbent president Richard Nixon and pulls one of the biggest upseats in primary election. Mark Hatfield is the VP pick of Ashbrook. McCloskey choose liberal senator Frank Church of Idaho for his vice president pick. If this election ever happen who would win? And who would you cast your ballot for.

McCloskey wins due to Ashbrook  conservative message not popular with the public.

Which at the time would affect Ashbrook chances if Hospers comes out of the closet.

A long run way from being ever a Republican ticket. I should switch to someone more moderate that not gay and keep Ashbrook from losing the race.

With Ashbrook running mate now the moderate Hatfield, are Ashbrook chances of winning now greater then with John Hospers or will he still lose the race to California congressman Pete McCloskey?

Mark Hatfield had a voting record very similar to Jacob Javits. He was one of the least conservative GOP senators. If a rw demagogue like Ashbrook asked Hatfield as a running mate, chances are he tells Ashbrook to get bent.

I was thinking about Gerald Ford to run with Ashbrook but I wasn't sure. Who would you choose as Ashbrook running mate?

I might try Gerald Ford to run with Ashbrook in this scenario.

Phil Crane had only been in the House less than four years by 1972, having won election to Rumsfeld's seat after Rumsfeld left for the Nixon Administration. In terms of similar beliefs, I'd suggest Reagan, Senator James L Buckley of New York, or maybe Congressman John Rhodes of Arizona.

Reagan wouldn't except anything less then president, so I wouldn't choose Reagan for VP. Buckley, great choice in
