Question for Oakvale for clarification.

The 60 day ban on Dallasfan from holding office, is this federal office only, or for regional office as well?

Before the sentence was rendered, Dallasfan became Lieutenant Governor of the Northeast Region, so if this sentence bans Dallasfan from holding regional office as well, we will have to find another Lieutenant Governor.

Please clarify.

I'm afraid it also covers regional offices. To directly quote from the violated Act, the office-holding ban specifically states-

You must be logged in to read this quote.

So, unfortunately, the Northeast will indeed need a new Lieutenant Governor.

was there a determination as to whether Dallasfan might have been called upon to determine the validity of a ballot? It seems like that's an important issue for the interpretation of this law going forward.

Believe me that I wanted to deal with that issue.  However, Dallas plead thus conceeding the issue.  I believe that it is in fact an important issue, but it will not be decided in this case.

I understand your concern, but that is not the role of the court here.  There was probable cause, thus Kal was right to bring charges.  I do believe that there are significant questions about whether the law would apply to Dallas. 

However, he chose to plead guilty.  He conceded that he had broken the law and committed a crime.  The Court cannot do anything about that.  The only way to determine if the law was broken was to have a trial.  A trial is every defendant's right, and one which Dallas waived, which is also his right.  Thus, the Court's hands were tied.  I don't like it, but it was his right and he did it freely and voluntarily.  Therefore, if it is to be determined, it is not here.

There was no possibility to proceed with the "regular" case, because Dallas first admitted and then pleaded guilty, before either prosecution had an opportunity to present evidences and defense to make their arguments.

He was charged as well, but due to Jake Matthews' banning, prosecution had nothing to proceed with.

An investigation was started, but unfortunately had to be dropped. I would have rather gone through a trial, with hopes that a fair court would find me innocent. Instead, the charges are just dropped, and many are still suspect of my actions.
