I remember my first accidental gay date back in '64. Didn't notice the guy was a flamer, or that he took me out to a bar called the Jungle Snake. I didn't realize why he was rubbing against me until it was too late, and I was being ridden like one of those ponies on top of a bed. I thought he was just practicing for the rodeo. Took me a few whole years to realize that he had ass-f**ked me.

Whenever I hang out with my friends, I consider that a form of a gay date. So yes.

That was right before the Republican party truly spent their electoral majority. They were beginning to lose Catholics and Germans, the West was about to turn away from them in a big way and the McKinley/Roosevelt Democrats were itching to return to the fold. By 1912, Democrats hadn't won an election since 1892 and it was high time for a correction.

Today, Republicans aren't nearly as much of an "our party" as they were in 1912. There was a Republican in the White House less than four years ago. If Republicans don't broaden their base they could encounter the same fate as the Democrats in the 90s and 00s but they're not there yet. Ironically, this helps Roosevelt, as the memory of the last R president still looms large in the minds of voters. In 1912, people had moved past the Cleveland years. In 1936, the Hoover years are still fresh.
No not back then they were starting losing Catholics. The last 8 years is when they damaged themselves with the Catholic community with the 1928 Presidential Campaign. Then the Stock Market Crash came in 1929 I think? Then Roosevelt basically put the GOP in a corner with the Catholic community with his campaigning against Prohibition. Roosevelt did it because Massachusetts was a basically a tie with him and Hoover I believe. The GOP can't blame Roosevelt for the errors in courting the Catholic Vote because all they have is themselves to blame. They had years to warm over people pissed off at Wilson and they failed. Their rhetoric about immigrants is a no-no also. Harry M. Daugherty even told GOP politicians about the importance of the Catholic vote in the future and the GOP politicians just blew it off. Their fault nobody else's.

Not only did the GOP lose the West they gave the Dems every state west of Pennsylvania in 1932.
Wilson got like 65% of Catholics in 1916.
No but the Republicans started to make inroads with the Catholic vote with Harding/Coolidge in the first half of the 1920's
Fascinating.

Yep. My self-translation would be 'I'm sorry, but uselectionatlas.org is an English-language website.' And then exactly what you had for the second sentence.

You're using BOB DOLE as an example of a credible Republican?! LOL Bob Dole was, is and will forever be (in my opinion) a liberal (which as a side note is why he lost to Clinton in 96). Of course his ideas are anathema to the Freedom Party.

I find it quite interesting you're using the term Freedom Party to refer to the GOP. Are you a fan of Harry Turtledove? The Southern Victory series is quite well done.

I was actually referring to the Tea Party, but it applies to the GOP too since we're taking over

He doesn't get it...

The Freedom Party was a far-right political party in Harry Turtledove's Southern Victory series of books which espoused right-wing populism, anti-socialism, Confederate nationalism and white supremacy.

I went up to Governor Johnson, shook his hand, had him sign a copy of the Constitution I had on me, and spoke to him at length.

Good thing you remembered!  I hate when I leave home each morning and forget to take my copy of the Constitution with me.

John Kerry is going to have to go out of his way to be extra flip-floppy when he has those practice debates with Obama.

The entire discussion. It gets funnier post after post.

BRTD should accept Thor into his heart.  I know accepting the truth of the Norse pantheon has made me a much better person.

It's too late for that - Ragnarok is upon us! We have only a few months. The Mayans predicted it.

Fools! 2038 is when the universe ends according the the UNIX calendar.

UNIX was made by arrogant modern man - I learned not to trust computers to predict the end of the world after I wasted my life savings buying five tons of freeze dried lima beans to prepare for Y2K. The Mayans were ancients who were wise with the wisdom of the ancients. Or aliens. I'm not quite clear on that part.

It was ancient aliens.

Well that makes sense - ancient aliens built pyramids and stuff, modern aliens mutilate cows and anally probe rednecks. It seems their culture has declined just as ours has.

It all started going downhill when they let k'razfrtikgn marry other k'razfrtikgn
