I love how he said "Goggle", opebo's cute deliberate mispellings of website names are hilarious and brilliant. I spit out my drink laughing when I read him referring to "Facialbook".

I can't possibly be the first to think BRTD's opebo-adoration is just an act.

I finally got my hands on a Thomas Pynchon book the other day. I think I'm gonna like it.

Which one? I really, really love Pynchon (,even if I'm not that big on the whole ridiculous atmosphere that can surround his persona at times or the awfully pathetic fanboyism of some of his admirers.). V. is probably the best entry into his oeuvre as it both shows flashes of Pynchon at his best as well as being a great preparation for the glorious delights that is Gravity's Rainbow, and I say this as someone who personally would consider Against The Day to be the peak of Pynchon's craft.

The whole California-cycle (Vineland, Inherent Vice, maybe even The Crying of Lot 49 )of novels is less my thing, though.

Yes, typical Ernest.

You see, neither this forum nor the internet existed 1969.

Is there no limit to the extent of CARL's ability to self-fail?
Well, actually CH is right for once (although pedantic).
If you look at the quote that was redacted, it was apparently posted in 1969.

Uhm, that wasn't why CARL's post was such a fail.

I love this exchange.

Just googled her, I don't read fiction so that explains it. So my lack of knowledge of female fiction writer somehow sums me up? At least I admit things like that instead of running to Google every time to pretend I know something I don't(like Link).

Franz Kafka was a man.

A pearl of exotic beauty that had to be dug out of that horrible mudhole of a thread.

It may be what people secretly think internationally, but in Israel it's common knowledge.

Slavoj Zizek has written extensively about "Kung Fu Panda", so I think the Star Wars prequels are fair game.

The question then arises whether the Off-Topic Forum should not aspire to more academical rigour than a Zizek book.

I generally find diagnosis via Blogspot to be an unreliable method.

The idea of someone speaking a dead language, especially, Latin (or even claiming to speak it) is inherently hilarious to me. If you don't find it so I apologise.

I personally have a great admiration for people able to speak dead languages, especially Latin.

What you mean to say is, 'I took Latin in school.' Wink

Learning to speak a dead language seems like the very definition of a waste of time, but different strokes...

I'm told it's helpful if you're getting into archaeology, law, medicine, etc.  Other than that, yeah, it's pretty useless.

I never take anyone serious who doesn't master at least some latin.

Sure, but so could've Germany.

Anyway, at least we can take some solace in the fact that Obama and Casey will win re-election now.
