Seriously guys, if you ask Cantor why he entered public service, will he answer "to help other people" while keeping a straight face?

What's your definition of "other people?"

Cantor's is "Isreal", certainly.

Here is a post from the thread for a reported post, wherein a moderator gives his reason for not infracting as requested by the complainant.  Quote has been edited to protect the guilty.

No. This is a mindbogglingly stupid argument and all too typical of XXXXXXXX. But arguments one believes are stupid are no reason to infract or ban.

Otherwise we'd lose over 90% of our YYYYYYYYY.

<stares into space with a dreamy smile, envisioning such a world>

AHEM! But seriously, no.

Yes, typical Ernest.

You see, neither this forum nor the internet existed 1969.

Is there no limit to the extent of CARL's ability to self-fail?

So Joe, do you believe this forum and/or the internet existed in 1969?

I just shattered my skull from facepalming so hard.

Why?  I thought CARL's attempt at humor was quite obvious, and not without success.  I don't think he would be so obtuse as to not realize I had purposely changed the timestamp to an impossible one, tho not the earliest one.

However, it does go to show that this forum does suffer from the Y2K38 bug, tho weirdly it suffers it a day too early.

I hereby nominate the following for the Blazing Saddles comedy award.

Not as bad as if you replaced Portugal with Norway...

Why did this last longer than most of the Comedy Goldmines?
Goldmines tend to play out quickly. This is a respectable Institute, and it's well-endowed.
Don't use the e-word.  I don't want this morphing into a replacement for the Hot Guys thread.

What's the "e-word" - E****t?
e*****d, tho I will allow that E****t could be used as a synonym. Wink

jmfcsts are closet socialists, so obviously they are not going to vote for a businessperson.

a businessman or businesswoman perhaps, but definitely not a businessperson

Yeah.  I read it somewhere on the net many months ago and it felt appropriate for the boring discussion that was unfolding in that thread.  Joe gets the 2 points.

2 points?  Why should Joe get infracted?

Yeah, it really takes away from the realism of the movie.

It's bad graphic design, but I think that makes it worthy of The Atlas Deluge of Absurdity, Ignorance, and Bad Posts, not this illustrious institute.

Low-sulfur at best.  I was tempted to quote the posting of this in the sulphur mine into the deluge, but it wasn't that wet either.

From the thread "Did Obama win black Republicans?" in the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election Results board.

Who knows? Where are Black Republicans concentrated, anyways

I don't get it. What's so reprehensible about the National Association of Marlon Brando Look-Alikes? Huh

Recycled South Park joke dude.

Ah.  I don't watch that show. Tongue

Considering what I think of Marlin Brando, that meaning of NAMBLA would actually be worse than the real one.

Going to hell for this.

I can't imagine why FDR would be thinking of people with two good legs.

It was a bit dry, but I'm glad you liked it.

Cop: Sir, step away from the grass.
Westman: I'm not finished!
Cop: What the hell is wrong with you? What did this grass do to you? What if I came to your home and stepped on your grass? People like you disgust me. Now, you'll learn how to respect nature.
Westman: (being handcuffed) FASCISM!

You're probably better off taking my word for it that this is comedy without clicking for context.

I remember that as their April Fool's story one year, NPR reported about an Irish basketball phenomenon that Boston was interested in, but would only agree to sign if the team started pronouncing Celtics as Keltics and not Seltics.

I know I shouldn't post this here, since jmfcst has learned that The Nym Strikes Back, but ...

Her sexuality is irrelevant. Her achievement as the first American and third overall woman in space is very relevant.

Rest in Peace.

Her sexuality is relevant. We can be heroes too.

People like you are such an inspiration to a new generation.  Congrats on being a lesbian.

Oh jmfcst. Sometimes...just sometimes I miss you.

There's that term...again.

I take it the meme is sexually erotic in nature and is only understood in the context of this forum, for when I google it, 99% of the links point back to threads on this forum regarding homosexuality or African-American women...

...which makes me wonder why it is being applied to me, for I certainly don’t plan on becoming anyone’s bitch anytime soon.

Don't know if it was intentional, but...

Ross Perot and Ron Paul in any election. Regan was the last time I felt good about voting.

If Congress can posthumously promote George Washington to a 5-star general, can it also posthumously demote Custer back to private?

Washington was actually promoted to six stars, but I laughed.

Actually, whether or not General of the Armies is a 6-star or a 5-star rank is a matter of some dispute.  It isn't helped by the fact that the only man ever awarded the rank while living, Pershing, used as his insignia 4 gold stars.

Well, he could have used five silver stars instead, since rank of General of the Army was yet to be created.

He didn't need to use five stars.  The grades of lieutenant general and general were temporary grades and after demobilization completed, there were busted back to their permanent rank of major general.  Indeed, the highest permanent rank a US Army officer holds now is major general, with them being given the grade of lieutenant general or (full) general only while they occupy a position for which that grade is specified, altho unless they really screw up, they'll keep that grade until promoted or retired.
