Obama's coattails certainly did not hurt him in 2008... he won with 64% in a district that is 5 points less Republican than the whole state.  He also did very well in rural areas... winning all but two rural counties that are located in his district.

Yeah, one problem: it isn't 2008.

Something I thought - say Matheson does go for this, and is in a competitive race in Fall 2012. Assuming Mitt Romney is the GOP nominee, will Matheson switch sides and endorse Romney for President, stick with Obama, or refuse to endorse?

It wouldn't make any sense for him to do that, he still needs Democrats to win a race and endorsing Romney wouldn't endear him to the Democratic base.

Well, Mormons consider it to be their holy land, so being "pro Utah" is probably very important to them.

I imagine he'd keep his mouth as shut as possible about everything presidential.

Ya this seems a little farfetched.  Though, I said the same thing about the notion of Obama winning NC in '08, so who knows.
