2008 U.S. gubernatorial elections. Instead of doing state-by-state maps, county results are displayed at the U.S. map.

Red, of course, denoted Democratic victory in each county, while Blue Republican.

This map shall serve as a basis for next, more complex, map to follow.

Yes. Douglas carried all VT counties, while Lynch carried all NH counties.

Notice Missouri: Nixon and Obama didn't share a win in a single county in the entire state

Huh?  Nixon won all of Obama's counties.

Huh?  Nixon won all of Obama's counties.

Right, I screwed this one. Most of maps use D-blue R-red scheme and it's difficult to follow sometimes.

I'll fix it tomorrow.

A totally useless map, denoting birth counties of the 20th/21st centuries U.S. Presidents (since Hoover was born in a city located in two Iowa counties and I have no clue, in which exactly he was born, I denoted two).

Red is, of course, birth county of a Democratic President; Blue Republican and yellow is a county where both Democratic and Republican Presidents were born.

Born farrest North: Calvin Coolidge
Born farrest South (contiguous states): Lyndon B. Johnson
Born farrest East: John F. Kennedy and George H. W. Bush

Born farest North: Calvin Coolidge
Born farest South (contiguous states): Lyndon B. Johnson
Born farest East: John F. Kennedy and George H. W. Bush
Born farest West: Richard Nixon

No such English word as "farest".  The standard superlative of "far" is either "farthest" or "furthest".  There is a dialectal regularization of the superlative, but to meet the rules of English spelling it is "farrest" with two 'r's not one.

Don't mean to steal any of your thunder (thus why I'm posting this here), but:

Birth counties for all presidents.

Color Scheme:

Dark Grey=More than one party
Dark Purple=Democratic-Republican
Red=Democratic
Light Green=Whig
Blue=Republican
Maroon=National Union

Now here is one for Vice Presidents

Color Scheme:

Dark Grey=More than one party
Purple: Democratic-Republican
Pinkish Red: Calhoun (did this because he changed parties under different presidents)
Red: Democratic
Light Green: Whig
Blue: Republican
Maroon: National Union

I should have a companion post up later in my Useless Thread O'History that identified where each President and Vice President was born.

Patrick, I know. I meant contiguous states.

Mecha, I appreciate that etc., but I was already in a half way of making such maps, and now I have to throw it away...

Here's an map denoting 20th/21st Centuries losing presidential nominees (Democratic, Republican and major third party, who received electoral voter or surpassed 5% of the popular vote) counties of birth.

Red: Democratic (Parker, Bryan, Cox, Davis, Smith, Stevenson, Humphrey, McGovern, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry)
Blue: Republican (Hughes, Landon, Willkie, Dewey, Goldwater, Dole)
Green: Progressive (La Follette)
Yellow: Libertarian (Hospers)
Orange: Dixiecrat/American Independent (Thurmond and Wallace)
Gray: Independent (Anderson and Perot)
Dark red: Socialist (Debs)

The map is denoting only those candidates who never became Presidents.

Birth counties of the 2008 Democratic (red) and Republican (blue) presidential candidates.

Gray denotes a county where two candidates from diffrent parties were born (in this case Paul and Vilsach).

Yet another useless, denoting birth counties of the 20th/21st centuries major vice presidential losers.

Red: Democratic nominee (Davis, Kern, Roosevelt, Bryan, Robinson, Sparkman, Kefauver, Muskie, Eagleton, Shriver, Ferraro, Bentsen, Lieberman and Edwards)
Blue: Republican nominee (Butler, Knox, McNary, Bricker, Warren, Lodge, Miller, Dole, Kemp, Palin)
Green: Progressive (Johnson, Wheeler)
Oragne: Dixiecrat/American Independent (Wright, LeMay)
Dark Red: Socialist (Seidel)
Yellow: Libertarian (Nathan)
Gray: Independent/Reform (Lucey, Stockdale, Choate)

The next map wil be of a diffrent kind.

Red: County won by Obama and Democratic gubernatorial candidate
Blue: County won by McCain and Republican gubernatorial candidate
Green: County won by Obama and Republican gubernatorial candidate
Yellow: County won by McCain and Democratic gubernatorial candidate

Mecklenburg, Bumcombe and Watauga counties should be red in NC.

Both Obama and Perdue won those.

There was n sun today. But it was rainy and I feel I have a little cold.

So, making this map was the only thing I was able to do:

2008 Senate elections, county results, at a nationwide map.

As of Wyoming, county results of two races (regular with Enzi and special with Barrasso) were identical. As of Mississippi, I covered only special, which was somehow competitive (Wicker v. Musgrove), rather than safe regular (Cochran v. some sacrificial lamb).

I'm sorry about Alaska, which reports results only by electoral districts, rather than her administrative districts (county equivalent).

Blue: Republican
Yellow: Independent (Crist in Florida)
Gray: Tie (Robertson County, Kentucky)

Great job, though.
